Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I haven't gotten it out in a while," Tip admitted. "This place can be really distracting." She held up the camera and centered Roscoe in a shot. "May I?"

"Um, of course," Roscoe said, immediately striking a dramatic pose with one hand on his hip and the other behind his head as he gazed into the distance.

Distracted by a thought, he broke his pose for a moment to ask, "Come to think of it, have you ever taken headshots? I was thinking about getting some done, if you wanna do them."

Tip snapped a couple of shots both in the pose and out of it. "I've mostly taken vacation photos," she admitted. "But I could give it a shot."

"Vacation photos, modeling photos, same thing, right?" Roscoe joked. "All I know how to do is take selfies, and even then they're kinda bad. It's really cool you know how to do this stuff."

"It's mostly all about practice," Tip said, pride creeping into her tone. "And selfies are too awkward to ever be really great, anyway."

"That's true," he granted. "Guess that's why they don't make real cameras with the front-facing selfie cams." Or maybe they did, but he hadn't touched a real, non-cell-phone camera in years, so what did he know? "You got any good shots so far? Maybe you can help me spot the newbies."

"Mostly crowd photos," Tip said. She held the camera up so he could see the digital view screen and skimmed through shots of the students and teachers. There was a guy wearing an enormous gold crown thing in a few of the former shots, and a guy who looked like a human with a yellow lab head in one of the latter. "I haven't met any of the new people yet. Have you?"

"Just my new little sibling. Her name's Negasonic Teenage Warhead," Roscoe said. "She seems really cool. She was asking me about, like, genetically engineered mutants and superpowers and stuff, so I'm thinking her world is probably more like yours than mine, just based on the weirdness factor."

He paused when Tip reached the photo of Mr. Peanutbutter. "Wow, okay, furry culture has seriously gone too far."

"That -- is a hell of a name." Pardon her language. "Does she go by Nega? N.T.W.?" Tip was coming up with nicknames already and she hadn't even met the girl. "I think that might be his actual head," she said, referring to Mr. Peanutbutter. "Or it's really sophisticated animatronics. He might be an alien."

"I'm gonna test out some nicknames," Roscoe promised. "Warhead by itself might be cool. Like 'Hey, I'm going over to Warhead's, you want to come?' We'll see if she likes it." Since her own approval of the nickname was arguably more important than what Roscoe thought sounded cool.

Anyway. "Maybe you should ask J.Lo if he knows any aliens who look like dogs," Roscoe said thoughtfully. "Can you imagine a whole planet full of talking dogs? Wait, except it would be really sad if that planet got invaded."

"I'm pretty sure he's mentioned aliens that look like armadillos," Tip said. He'd kept exclaiming over them on their drive to Arizona and then laughing delightedly. Though they might have looked like a type of pet instead of a type of alien. "Dog-headed people doesn't sound too farfetched, really. They probably wouldn't act like earth dogs, though. They'd have their own totally different culture."

"That's even better! That means they wouldn't lick your face," Roscoe laughed. "I really don't need my face licked, especially by a dog that's not actually a dog. Not to kinkshame, but that's so not my thing."

He grinned. "Armadillo aliens sound cute too. Maybe not if they were giant, but like, normal size."
