Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"It hardly matters here." So no. That was a no.

"So no," Anders said, echoing the narration. "And I didn't say it mattered. It was just -- a surprise."

Which was probably exactly why Thorin didn't bring it up.

"I have no desire to rule," he admitted after a moment. "But I'm the eldest of my siblings. And I fear Frerin would start a war on accident should he be king."

"Starting wars is usually bad," Anders nodded wisely. "Is it nice for you, being away from people who know?"

"Occasionally. But it leaves me concerned that I have shirked my duties." Pre-dragon and all.

Anders shrugged. "I can't remember -- do you get messages from home?"

Thorin shook his head and sighed. "I have continued to try, but nothing as worked so far."

He did, however, have a thriving Etsy shop to pass the time.

"All right, that would worry me," Anders conceded. "I'm sure everything is fine, but I see why you'd want to know."

"So I may understand why you might do something foolish to regain your loved ones." A beat. "But it was still dumb."

And there was the smack on the arm he richly deserved.

"Ouch!" Anders said. "I didn't know dwarves hit that hard."

"... and yes," he added, simply. "It was."

"Men are just delicate," he teased. Because that was better than them dealing with emotions. Thorin, you're from Tolkien. Cry about shit and write a damn poem about stars.

"Are not," Anders protested. Delicately.
