Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Let me give you my good side," Kuzco said, turning his head and posing.

Because everyone from ancient Incan society knew about good sides. Shush.

Tip snorted and snapped a photo. The conversation was only a few seconds old, so she wasn't irritated yet. "Thanks. I'm Gratuity."

Give him time!

"Kuzco," he replied. "You getting pictures of everyone, or just the cool people?"

"I got a lot of crowd shots," Tip said. "So everyone's probably included. But I'm only taking solo shots of interesting people."

Oh sure, Tip. Feed his ego. It's clearly starving.

Withering away!

"Good choice," he agreed. "I am definitely the most interesting."

Based on his three interactions with people.

". . . You're definitely wearing the biggest hat." Maybe he was nervous about his first day. "So . . . what brings you to Fandom?"

"Oh, leadership conference," Kuzco said, "which my school lackey--" sibling, "--told me isn't really a thing."

"Yeeeeah, I haven't heard about it," Tip said. "But I guess I don't know everything that goes on around here? So . . . maybe."

Kuzco shrugged. "I'll figure it out. I'm a survivor."

Mmm...not so much.

"That's good." Tip didn't want to just assume flat out that Kuzco was full of it -- but she was kind of assuming flat out that Kuzco was full of it. He looked like he was made out of uncooked spaghetti. "That'll be useful around here."

"Wait, why?" Kuzco hadn't exactly been doing a lot of listening today. Go figure.

"Did your sib -- uh." She wasn't going to call whoever that poor person was a 'lackey'. "The person the school assigned to you explain anything?"

"She was bowled over by being in the presence of royalty," Kuzco said. "You know how it is."

"Yeah." Tip's tone was dead flat. And here she'd thought she might actually have found a place where no one was an idiot like they were back home. "So every now and then something shows up on the island and tries to kill everybody."

Don't sugar coat it or anything, Tip.

Kuzco laughed. "Sure they do."

Tip raised an eyebrow. "There's also these things called gremlins that live in the vents and bite people. Their venom makes you hallucinate."

"Hallucinate," Kuzco repeated. "Okay, sure."

He wasn't buying any of this.

Yeah, Tip was noticing that. "There are green deer living in the preserve."

"Uh-huh," Kuzco said. "That's totally normal."

Tip was almost wishing a gremlin would run up right now, just so she could watch when Kuzco's brain broke. "At the beginning of the summer, one of the other students pushed me off the roof of the dorms to see if humans could fly."

"And since you're not in a body cast, I guess you either can or there was a hugely helpful trampoline delivery just then?"

"My space alien best friend sent me a belt full of safety balloons and I happened to be wearing it at the time."

Okay, now Tip was just having fun saying true things that sounded like outrageous lies.

"Of course you were," Kuzco said. "This is all toooootally real. Yep. Uh-huh."

"Wanna see a picture of my best friend?" Tip asked. "He's the president of his people's planet."

"Oh, I'd love to see that," Kuzco said. "I'm sure it's completely not made up."
