Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Girl in a tree," Dante said, "She seems cool. And then there's this guy who says he used to be an adult who lost an arm and a leg, but now he's a teenager and real fucking upset about it...?"

The WTF look said it all, really.

"Is he still missing the arm and the leg, or does he have them back but he's mad he's young?"

Anders asked the important questions.

"He's still missing them," Dante reported dutifully. "Something about a planet that tries to kill you all the time? I don't know."

Sometimes it was nice to know he and Anders were from sort of normal places by comparison.

"Like the screaming sun place," Anders suggested. "At least, I thought it wanted to kill us. I didn't go on over and take a look to be sure."

He glanced into the crowd, wondering if he could spot the person Dante was talking about.

"I guess Fandom will be a vacation for him. We get to keep our limbs."

"We're back home, too," Dante observed. He picked a nearby picnic seat and settled in it, stretching his legs out. "Things might be easier all around for all of us. Picnic's a good start so far."

Or at least, he felt a whole lot better than he had last picnic.

"Absolutely," Anders agreed,as he sat down next to Dante. "For one thing, I'm actually here for the picnic this time."

"I wasn't going to point it out," Dante teased. "But it's definitely a big improvement."

The fact he'd be going home after the picnic with an actual roommate slash close friend this time had not been lost on him, no.

"You can point it out all you want to," Anders laughed. "I won't complain."

Going home with Dante was much better than -- what i>had he been doing during the summer welcome picnic? Getting ready to be Harrowed, most likely.

"It is good to have you back at the picnic," Dante said, grinning at him. "Even if you didn't take your shirt off like the rest of us."

Tsk.

Anders raised one eyebrow, smirking. "Was that a dare?"

He wasn't exactly going to need a ton of incentive to take his shirt off, if Dante was the one asking.

"Call it me asking nicely if it gets you to do it," Dante said, watching him.

"If you were asking nicely," Anders said, already laying his staff to one side, "you'd say please."

And now his shirt was over his head. He was still wiry and pale -- though less skinny than he'd been when he got back from the Circle, thank the Maker.

Which was good, and Dante had seen him shirtless enough times in the interim to know it was getting better.

"Much better," he said, grinning.

He reached out, trying for a playful pat on the stomach.

"Glad you approve," Anders said, and if Dante was going to pat him he'd pat Dante back yet. "Hey, I didn't say you could touch me."

"Ouch," Dante said, scrunching his face up as he pulled his head a few inches away from Anders dramatically. "So it's look but don't touch now? You're killing me, Anders."

Obviously he was getting murdered on the spot.

"Well, we have to have some boundaries," Anders teased. "Or else we'll end up mauling each other in public, and where would that lead us?"

It should be noted that nobody outside Anders' fevered imagination had suggested anything like mauling each other in public.

Dante snickered. "The bushes? Trees? Right in front of the flamingos?" he offered. "I mean, I'm easy, a girl once talked me into doing it on a ferris wheel..."

That girl being Ada, it had to be noted.

"One of the up-and-down wheel things?" Anders asked, gesturing the vague shape of a Ferris wheel in the air. "How did that even work? I'd think somebody would fall out."

This was what he chose to find implausible, yes.

"Not if the girl's in your lap," Dante said, with a grin. "It was a little bumpy, but..."

"But you toughed it out?" Anders finished, with a teasing grin of his own. "Well, thank the Maker you made it work. It would have been sad if you hadn't. Might have taken hours and hours for you to find another opportunity."

"It'd be really sad," Dante agreed. "Like all this time we're wasting not mauling each other in public."

He had no actual drive to go mauling each other in public. Going back and taking advantage of the bed situation - either by crashing or other stuff - before they stopped being lazy and actually pushed them apart again, though...

Anders laughed and reached for Dante's wrist, tugging him closer.

"Lazy," he said. "We have a whole room to maul each other in."

"Fiiiine," Dante sighed, leaning into the tug. "No bushes for us."
