Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Rhys, his terrible name tag, and his plate of food precariously balanced on one scrawny knee was watching everyone around him in case this was some super elaborate joke or lead up to Jack actually being alive and wanting to mess with his mind.

You never knew.

"I miss my arm," he whined to himself. Eating with the other hand was weird.

"God. Do you ever stop complaining?"

The comment came from under a tree where Negasonic was studying her cell phone intently.

"Yes." No, never. He was composed entirely of whining, noodle, and useless attempts at heroism.

"Then we'd all like to hear it stop," she snarled back.

It's an arm and you're going to build a new one. Move on already!

"Well, maybe you shouldn't sit by me!" Rhys snapped like the mature adult he was.

"I was sitting here first," she snarked back like the adolescent teen she was.

"Were not." Guys, c'mon.

"What are you? Twelve?"

"I'm twenty-nine!" he said with all the wounded pride of a teenage boy.

That deserved a snort of derision. "Yeah. Right."

"I am!"

His life was awful and it was amazing.

"Then why do you look twelve?"

He didn't look twelve. But she knew that would probably get him wound up.

Rhys made a completely reasonable noise of offense, knocking his plate off his knee as he turned to glare. "Oh, c'mon! It's really hard to fill up with one hand!"

Sucks to suck, Rhys.

Dante: still ambling around in search of something to do.

"The fuck happened to you?"

Dante: also still a void of tact.

"...Sorry."

Dante: ... slowly learning a little bit of tact? Maybe?

Hey, it was almost like he was back on Pandora! Oh, that wasn't good. He almost missed the place.

"You would not believe me," Rhys replied, one eye twitching a little. You know. The one he had left, not the one in his pocket.

HEEYO!

Dante eyed him.

Dante took a demonstrative glance around the picnic, which included aliens and people in period dress.

Dante eyed him again.

"Try me."

"I'm a teenager!" Rhys snapped, sending his poor plate flying. He needed those cookies...

"You know, I expected the whole arm and eye thing, but this is just salt in the wound. Who asks to be a teenager again? People who had great teenage years and haven't moved on! That's who!"

That 'no, seriously' look was just not going to leave Dante's face around this guy, was it?

"Yeah, you're a teenager," he said. "So is everybody else here. Congratulations."

"I'm not supposed to be one!" Did that help? No? Probably not.

"Right."

Dante, stop giving the boy the flat what look. That was just mean.

"So what are you supposed to be?"

"And adult? With a job?" A beat. "That I'm probably fired from."

FOR DESTROYING HELIOS.

"And you're complaining about not being an adult with a job anymore?" Dante said, tilting his head. "Fuck, you have bad priorities."

"...yeah, but I had money then." And some friends. And wasn't a teenager.

"And now you got a place to sleep and free food," Dante pointed out.

"...that also sounds like prison." Minus getting shanked.
