Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Ah, yes. That is a common reaction to this land," Thorin granted him with a smile as he bowed his head. "Thorin, son of Thrain. At your service."

Ah, someone with manners! Khadgar gave a little bow in return. "I'm Khadgar of the Kirin Tor," he said. That last part might not have quite been true but he wasn't going to correct himself. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Do you go to the school here?"

"I do indeed, despite my best efforts," he replied dryly. "May I ask who the Kirin Tor are?"

"Uh, it's the circle of mages where I come from." Sorry Thorin! Khadgar's face also fell a little. "The fact that you asked lets me know I'm really not home anymore."

"My apologies," Thorin replied. "Anders is a mage. Perhaps he knows of your enclave?"

That made Khadgar perk up quite a bit. "That's good to know, I'll have to ask him. Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking? It seems like few people are from the same place."

"My people are from Erebor, the Lonely Mountain?" In case that helped. "There is a city of Men called Dale at our gates."

"I'm not familiar with that, but I'm sure it's a lovely place. You didn't sound very pleased when I mentioned the school. Do you not like it?" Khadgar asked.

"I have not been capable of returning home as of yet."

"Really?" Khadgar asked, looking surprised. The idea of not being able to return home hadn't even occurred to him yet. "Is there anyone else here from your home, or are you alone? I'm so sorry, that must be very difficult."

"I'm sorry," Khadgar said sympathetically. "I hope you find a way back to your home, or that things get better for you here. Ultimately though, it probably wouldn't be good to be stuck here, right?"

"He told me this is a good place for people trying new things, and that everyone gets along well," Khadgar said with a shrug. "He didn't specifically mention that things here are a bit strange, but I picked that up myself."
