Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Dante had had a pretty damn nice night last night - so he didn't exactly show up to the picnic bright and early.

But he did show up to the picnic wearing leather pants, his half-gloves and no shirt, just to keep the tradition going. He snagged some food and slouched in a seat somewhere, legs stretched out on the table.

"Why th' gloves?" Ada asked, simply plopping down next to him. "And ain't you hot in th' leather pants? I mean, I ain't complainin' or nothin', but leather don't got no mercy when it comes t' heat."

"I always wear the gloves," Dante pointed out. He didn't see why he had to take them off. "And I'm hot anyway, might as well own it."

How she survived knowing punsters like this, god only knew.

Ada swatted at his shoulder because that was terrible, Dante, even for you. "Don't wear 'em all th' time," she said, rolling her eyes. "I seen you with em' off."

Though, to be fair, then everything was off.

"Just pointin' out that you chose t' advocate for rule-followin', when you coulda just said 'b'cause they make me look badass,'" Ada teased. "Though you ain't wearing near enough glitter."

Look at her and Roscoe! It was shiny everywhere!

"Did it take you a while to get those pants on?" Ringo asked, sort of smirking once Dante eventually made it to the picnic.

She probably should have known better than to start in on Dante when she was still mildly uncomfortable in her own bikini-top and cutoff shorts ensemble.

Yeah, Dante really didn't have to say anything.

He could just headtilt at her bikini.

"What?" Ringo looked down at herself. Then, with a sort of self-confidence she wouldn't have been able to muster last year, she looked back up at Dante with a grin. "Thinking about how amazing I look?"

Ugh. Of course.

Ringo rolled her eyes.

But she also reached down to tug lightly at her top. "What? It's not that tight or anything."

"And neither are these pants," said Dante, who wore pretty damn tiny jeans on any given day.

(It was probably another Nephilim superpower.)

She glanced down at said pants, then looked up at Dante again, eyebrows raised. "Those don't count as tight?"

Dante shrugged a shoulder. "They're not that bad," he said.

Again, if you were used to skinny jeans, maybe.

Once he'd been pointed out to her, Margaery was hardly going to ignore the shirtless man. Even if she was homesick - even if she was more nervous than she'd ever been in her entire life - where there were shirtless men, Margaery soon followed.

"So are you new as well," she asked, wandering over with a smile as she glanced him up and down, "and aware of the customs here already, or is this not your first of these picnics?"

She'd be terribly envious if it was the former, really. It'd have been nice to know any of the customs here ahead of time.

... Well, hey there, hot newbie Dante'd missed while scanning the crowd.

"Start of my second year here, actually," he said, grinning at her. "I try to be a good example."

Of shirtless guys with no shame.

"Then may I say," Margaery told him with a smirk playing about her lips, "that I, for one, feel very welcomed by this ritual of yours, here, if that's the intent. It seems there are others who aren't so willing to participate, though we may hope your example proves inspirational."

She held out a hand - palm down, the way someone might if expect it to be kissed or bowed over, rather than shaken. "La - er, Margaery Tyrell."

Lucille had warned her that no one used titles. In other cases, Margaery may insist upon it, but she'd never asked a boy she was flirting with to address her properly. It ruined all the fun.

Unfortunately for her, Dante wasn't exactly from a time and place that was big on kissing or bowing over hands - and even if it had been, he was personally resistant to something like that.

So he pulled his feet back - slowly - and sat up, before taking her hand and giving it a shake.

"Dante," he said. "Big fan of anybody who has the balls to take their shirts off on picnic day. But I'm also cool with newbies."

"I came ill-prepared," Margaery confessed, gesturing to her gown - which, although it was ornate and embroidered with delicate roses, still cut nearly to her navel. "If I'd known I was to be shedding a layer of clothing, I might have worn something easier to remove." She leaned in conspiratorially. "Maybe next time, when I'm less a stranger to these lands."

Kind of depended on how long she was staying, but she wasn't going to say that. The problem certainly wasn't going to be her sense of modesty.

"I think you put in a good effort," Dante said. Look, it was hard to miss the down to the navel-ness of her dress when she was bending over like that, and he was not exactly fantastic at subtlety. "For a first-timer, you nailed it."

Right. There was stuff he could look at that wasn't her cleavage.

"Anybody warn you what you were getting into?" he asked. Of her face.

Margaery smiled, lifting a brow. "I've been warned about five or six times over, but all about different things. Apparently I shall have to avoid adventure and attacks while here, and I must also learn to use something called the Internet."

It had been an informative afternoon.

"Is there more to worry about? Better learn now before my shock sets in."

Dante tilted his head. "I meant before you came here," he said, after a moment. "But as for the other stuff, I think they covered it. Which is good. The last thing you need is spending your time jumping at shadows all the time, right?"

He shifted on the bench, turning towards her. "So where are you from, Margaery?"
