Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"It's nice. Big, noisy." Peter shrugged. "Lots of people, but the neighborhoods are nice."

"I see it all the time in movies and on TV, and in some ways it kind of reminds me of home. But also, it's, like, way different."

And, besides, those were just movies and TV.

"Where's home?" Peter asked.

"Tokyo." Ringo cocked her head to one side. "What about you? Is it New York?"

Probably not, no, Ringo.

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter shrugged just a touch awkwardly. "Boston, the last time I had a home." He was absolutely not counting Hell. "But I've lived in New York before, too."
soniaroadsqueen: (seriously)

[personal profile] soniaroadsqueen 2016-08-28 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Boston." Ringo nodded slowly. "I've heard of that." TV didn't tell her where Boston was though.

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's on the coast, but further up," Peter explained. "It's not as big, and it has a more European feel. To me, anyway."
soniaroadsqueen: (straight at you)

[personal profile] soniaroadsqueen 2016-08-28 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, I've never been to Europe," or Boston, for that matter, "so I guess I'll have to take your word for it."

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is this your first time away from home?" Peter asked.
soniaroadsqueen: (seriously)

Ringo nodded, eyes looking distant for a moment. "Yeah. I'd never even been outside of Japan before I came to Fandom."

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's pretty different, I'm guessing." Peter smiled. "I have a really good friend from Japan; when he first came to Europe, it was a bit of an adjustment."

Not to mention dealing with sixteenth-century Europeans, but Kuromaku had managed.

"In some ways," Ringo agreed. "Like, your pizzas are so weird here." As an example.

"But I think it's been easier for me than for a lot of people who, like, don't know what phones are and stuff, you know?"

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter laughed. "Uh, yeah. They were weird to me, and I'm from...I guess about eighteen years ago?"
soniaroadsqueen: (straight at you)

[personal profile] soniaroadsqueen 2016-08-28 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ringo frowned. "Um, didn't they have phones back then?" Not a ton of cell phones, Ringo. And no smart phones.

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Phones, yeah," Peter answered. "Mini computers in your pocket, no. Cell phones were still sort of rare, and a whole lot bigger. I didn't even recognize one the first time someone showed it to me."
soniaroadsqueen: (having a blast)

[personal profile] soniaroadsqueen 2016-08-28 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ringo laughed at that. "Really?" She shook her head. "Did it take you long to get used to them?" She couldn't really imagine not having access to the internet whenever she needed it.

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"I still am, a bit," Peter confessed. "But I'm a quick learner."
soniaroadsqueen: (seriously)

[personal profile] soniaroadsqueen 2016-08-28 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Another laugh. "That's probably pretty useful. Especially around here." The island really gave you plenty of opportunities to learn new things, too.

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"So I hear," Peter said. "So far I've just had to learn how to run a flower shop."
soniaroadsqueen: (straight at you)

[personal profile] soniaroadsqueen 2016-08-28 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Somehow I don't think the island'll leave it at that for too long." It never seemed to let people get bored.

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"We'll see," Peter said. "I'm trying to take it as it comes."

[personal profile] soniaroadsqueen 2016-08-28 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's a good philosophy in life, I think."

She said with all the wisdom of her 16 years.

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter was nice enough not to laugh at that, with his hundred-times-more years. "For some things, yeah. I like planning, but some things you can't plan for."
soniaroadsqueen: (seriously)

[personal profile] soniaroadsqueen 2016-08-28 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lots of times." See how wise she was?

[identity profile] 2-old-for-this.livejournal.com 2016-08-28 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Have you had that happen a lot?" Peter asked.
