Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

After the airport, bus ride and meeting her sib and new roommate, Negasonic retreated to a shady tree where she could zone out a minute and check her Twitter account.

This whole socializing thing was not for her.

Blue, apparently sensing her own antisocial kind, had sort of wandered into Negasonic's zone. If the other girl looked up from her phone or whatever, she might say hi, but otherwise she was content to eat her frozen yogurt in silence.

Negasonic did look up at one point and made eye contact with the girl. At which point Negasonic felt that she should make some type of effort for socializing yet again.

"Hey."

Okay, it wasn't much but it was almost friendly.

She should probably, like, introduce herself or something. "I'm Blue."

See? She could totally socialize. Sort of.

Yeah. Introductions were probably appropriate at this level of somewhat anti-social socialization.

"Negasonic Teenage Warhead," she replied looking up from her phone and giving the girl her full attention. And also to see how she'd react at the name.

Blue's name was Blue, and she'd been at Fandom High for a while now, so...

"So do you prefer the whole thing or is like 'Warhead' okay?"

"Negasonic's fine," she said with a shrug before hitting an awkward pause. "You new too?"

Based on the hair, lipstick, and leather jacket, Tip already had her theories about this girl. Then she saw the nametag.

Yup, this was the girl Roscoe had mentioned.

"Hey, can I take your picture?" she asked.

Her camera had worked great as an ice breaker last time. She might as well use it again.

Negasonic looked up from her phone and gave the girl a wary look. "Why?"

Tip shrugged. "I like taking pictures. It's cool if you don't want me to. I'm Gratuity, by the way."

All right then. After meeting Blue and now Gratuity Negasonic was feeling less apprehensive about saying her name.

"Negasonic Teenage Warhead," she replied. " you can take my picture."

But she wasn't going to smile.

"Thanks." Smiling would ruin the effect, anyway. She stepped back, framed up the shot, and took the picture. She turned the camera around to show Negasonic. "That's a cool name. Very evocative." But what was she going to call herself when she wasn't a teenager anymore?

She's sixteen. That problem is eons away from being dealt with.

"It's from a song. Seemed to fit me pretty well."

Because what Negasonic wanted more than anything else at the moment was a short Japanese girl in a bikini top and cutoff shorts who looked absolutely determined to be friends.

"Welcome to Fandom!" Ringo beamed and stuck out her hand. "I'm Ringo."

Someone wasn't really good at picking up on a certain class of social cues. Like "go away".

Not until he'd wandered over in that general direction, approaching the end of picnic time, mind.

Dante got a look at that comment. The one that tries to see if someone is teasing or not.

"Not that much of it to like," she replied dryly.

"Enough for me," Dante said lightly. "It's a nice fuck-you 'do."

"Dante," Dante said easily. "Been here for like a year. How about you?"
