So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Peridot really wasn't paying any attention to the ice cream. But then, Peridot really didn't eat or really notice the heat here, either. It balanced out.

Rather than worrying about things like heat or ice cream, she was walking around with her hand extended into her screen, quietly narrating any oddities she saw into her logs.

So far, compared to the norm that she'd experienced since arriving on the island, there wasn't anything too weird. Was it bad that she was hoping that would change?

"Peridot." Jalian nodded to her. "Have you seen anything interesting today?"

"Jalian," Peridot greeted, nodding in return. "I suppose that would depend on what you mean by interesting. I've been documenting the morning thus far, but..."

She hit a button on her limb enhancer, and a recording of her own voice piped up.

Log Date: Five, twenty-seven, two. The island seems to have landed on another planet in time for their ritualistic pre-seasonal-shift greeting ceremony. The new - predominantly human - residents of the island have, as of yet, been underwhelming. Even if some do appear to have delusions to the contrary. The greeting ritual is... tiresome, but I'll persevere.

And then she poked the button again, and the voice stopped.

Jalian nodded. "We may not be moving to other planets anymore, though" she said. "This is Earth, the one we're usually on."

"Right," Peridot said, poking at a few buttons on her screen, "the island is on--"

She froze. Her eyes went wide.

"Wait. This is Earth?"

"Yes." Jalian gave her a curious look. "Why?"

"The island hasn't been on Earth since I arrived here! Maybe-- maybe you've made some manner of miscalculation?"

Peridot looked quickly in the direction of the mainland, wondering what she'd find if she crossed the Causeway. Wondering, too, how long they had left if all Earths had a common history with the Earth that she was familiar with.

Jalian shrugged. "I checked the new place when we arrived. I believe it's the same as the old one, though I suppose it could be a different Earth."

Peridot grimaced, and then paced back and forth a few times.

"But you're certain it's an Earth."

Yeah, she was pretty clearly agitated by this news.

Jalian gave her a puzzled look. "An Earth, yes. Why?"

"Maybe this isn't a disaster," Peridot said, walking in a tight circle before pacing a little more. Then she stopped in her tracks. "Maybe this Earth is in the past, or it has a Homeworld warp! This is not a disaster..."

Could she repair her escape pod, perhaps? It had sustained damage in the landing, but that didn't mean it was hopeless...

"Why would it be a disaster?" Jalian asked, frowning.

"Because... because it's Earth!"

That was punctuated with a flail of the arms for good measure, right there.

"It was okay when the island was moving around through space and the multiverse. That, I could handle. But Earth? Earth is way out of my league! I can't handle Earth!"

So she was a weird face - she was still familiar.

Peridot blinked up from her screen at--

"Oh. It's you."

This was less a statement of dismay and more an observation of fact. Peter was certainly himself, yes.

"Hello, Peter. What brings you to this... assembly?"

Peter shrugged. "There were a lot of people here, and I thought maybe I could meet some."

Which was why he was here...talking to someone he already knew.

"Are these people all teachers and students?"

"Teachers and students," Peridot confirmed, looking out at the crowd. "And you."

Which, once again, was simply a statement of fact. Peridot tilted her head at Peter curiously.

"Have you met any people yet?"

Particularly ones worth knowing?

"Just one," Peridot replied, wrinkling her nose and gesturing with one hand in the general direction of the boy in the red toga with the big gold crown. "He insists he isn't meant to be here, but his class schedule says otherwise."

Peter blinked at the guy who looked like...well, like he really didn't belong here. "Where does he think he's supposed to be?"

"At a weekend conference," Peridot supplied, helpfully. "Whatever that means."

Of course, if his clothing was odd, the Gem with the giant triangle hair probably wouldn't know.

"It means a gathering for people to discuss something specific, for just a couple days," Peter explained. "But if he's signed up for classes, I guess he's here for a bit longer."

"So it would seem," Peridot replied. "I think he's making more of a fuss about it than I did, and I don't even want to be on this planet!"

She wanted to be here far, far less today than yesterday, granted.

"And he looks human, too, so he shouldn't have as many issues with adjusting." Peter watched Kuzco a moment longer. "I suppose he'll learn soon enough, anyway."

"How soon is soon enough? Before or after his conference is through?"

Or perhaps before or after he figured out that there was no conference?
