Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Um, nothing in particular?" Ringo shrugged. "I guess I'm still trying to, um, what's the cliche? Trying to find myself? This Fall I'm studying improvisational theater and shop and what not to do in a fight?"

"What not to do?" Peter blinked. "That seems a weird thing to study. Sorry."

Ringo laughed. "Lady Ghanima has some very specific opinions on such things."

"Mostly I think we'll be learning what to do when we're facing something too strong for us. But I'm sure there will be some surprises." With Lady Ghanima, there always was.

"That makes a bit more sense." And sounded pretty useful. "Which one is Lady Ghanima? Oh. I don't think I got your name, either."

"Oh!" Ringo ducked her head apologetically. Then turned that into a semi-formal bow, which was a movement that didn't really look all that formal when wearing a bikini. "I'm Ringo Noyamano. Nice to meet you."

Peter managed a passable bow in return. Kuromaku would be...okay, probably amused more than anything. "Nice to meet you, too. Have you been here long?"

"Just over a year," Ringo answered. "This was my second summer on the island."

She cocked her head. "When did you first arrive?"

"Um. On the cheese planet," Peter said. "A month or so, I guess. People keep saying this place is dangerous, but enough people want to stay, I guess it can't be too bad?"

"The cheese planet?" Ringo shook her head. "That was weird."

"But, yeah, as dangerous as it can be, I think the island is more good than bad."

"That's good to hear." Peter smiled wryly. "I can handle danger, but I'd rather not have to."

Ringo nodded in agreement. "Danger's only fun when it's, well, for fun. Like a roller coaster or something, you know?"

"A roller coaster would be nice," Peter agreed. "Actual danger, not so much."

"Yeah." Ringo sighed. "I mean, to be honest, I don't mind it so much for myself, but I don't like my friends being in danger, you know?" Especially if they got hurt. Or died.

"Yeah," Peter answered. "And none would be better. Or, well, no more than usual."

Another nod of agreement. "Yeah."

She looked thoughtful for a moment. "Actually, now that I think about it, I wonder if there are any good amusement parks nearby. I've never thought to check."

"I don't know," Peter said. "I guess Coney Island's not too far away?" Only a few hours.

"Oh, really?" Ringo's eyes lit up with excitement. "Where is it?"

"New York," Peter said. "We're around Baltimore, right? That three, three and a half hours."

"Oh, New York!" Ringo's excitement wasn't going anywhere. "I've always wanted to visit there!"

"It's nice. Big, noisy." Peter shrugged. "Lots of people, but the neighborhoods are nice."

"I see it all the time in movies and on TV, and in some ways it kind of reminds me of home. But also, it's, like, way different."

And, besides, those were just movies and TV.

"Where's home?" Peter asked.

"Tokyo." Ringo cocked her head to one side. "What about you? Is it New York?"

Probably not, no, Ringo.

Peter shrugged just a touch awkwardly. "Boston, the last time I had a home." He was absolutely not counting Hell. "But I've lived in New York before, too."

"Boston." Ringo nodded slowly. "I've heard of that." TV didn't tell her where Boston was though.
