Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Whoever worked the weather magic around here had done an excellent job to make sure things were nice outside for all the new (and old) residents of Fandom. It was warm and sunny, but not so humid that people would melt. There was plenty of moddable food and drinks, places to sit in the shade, and more than enough nametags to go around. It was time to celebrate the start of the summer!

There was a great deal of food on offer and didn't do much to allay Senshi's concerns that he had somehow fallen into a living painting. And while he was all for trying new things as much as the next dwarf, a lot of this looked a little suspect. The small sausages tasted mostly of salt and something indefinable. The beef patties were quite good, but the condiments were also very salty, though there was some decent tang there. Various kinds of salads, though he could only identify the garden variety.

After sampling so many new things, he got to wondering what he could make by combining his ingredients with some of what was available on the table. Mmmm, yes, he needed some of the minced beef patties, a few of the skinny sausages because he liked a challenge, some of the buns, a whole heap of vegetables, whether they were grilled, in the salad, or set aside to add to the patties, and some of the corn still on the cob, some of the cookies made from oatmeal, a bowl of the fruit salad, some white sugar, honey, and butter. That seemed like plenty to start cooking with.

Withdrawing to the side a bit so he didn't have to worry about jostling crowds accidentally bumping into him and getting burned, he set down the adamantine lid to build a small fire in and got to work.

Now, having met her little sibling - for better or for worse - Arden was free to check out the food table, load up a plate, and check out the crowd for friendly faces, new or familiar.

Well, now, wasn't this all quaint. Stewart was pretty used to small town life, but the island had a markedly different energy than Letterkenny, and Stewart wasn't quite sure what to make of it. He figured he'd best settle into his lodgings and drop off his things, and when he did that, he was tempted to just set up his Sega and spend the rest of the day crushing through levels.

But that was the old Stewart. This new Stewart....

...also wasn't exactly a picnic type of person, but maybe he'd scope put the lay of the land, the vibe of the people, and what kind of free food was at hand.

And try not to be depressed (more depressed than usual) at the island's almost entire lack of viable storefront parking lots.

Stark was awake at an ungodly hour at the picnic, of course. He didn't like to miss out on these things and there was always the faint hope that someone he knew would show up someday.

He had some food to nibble on and found himself a good spot to people watch.

In addition to one of her usual gowns of purple silk and her angelic headdress, today Liliana was also sporting a purple lace parasol, currently open and being spun lazily over one shoulder, because she was, as per usual, thoroughly on her bullshit today. Though she'd really only attended one picnic thus far during her tenure on Fandom, she'd decided she rather enjoyed them - a first look at all the new people and how they dealt with the various shocks that the island had in store. Never too soon to meet interesting people and an excellent way to get advanced notice on the off-chance the sudden influx of new people brought faces she'd really rather not see.

These picnics were biased against vampires and Navaan was going to write a sternly worded letter to whoever was in charge of them saying so! Well, okay, that sounded like a lot of work that would get in the way of her doing doctor stuff, so she'd just make sure to explode on them if the sun touched her.

Yeah! Take that!

Except don't because Navaan didn't want to be exploded. Which was why she was in her plague doctor best, standing in the shadiest part she could find.

Oh, of course Summer was here! Newbies Gawking Appreciation Day was one of favorite events! She was happily and not at all subtly watching and checking out any new faces and still felt terribly sad that Sidon wasn't here to help make the ones prone to gawking even more gawking.

Like, there was never any lack of gawking material, but Sidon always felt like a cheat code straight to the good gawks.

To be entirely honest, the food was the real reason Henry was here. She loaded up a plate and then proceeded to try and find someplace to sit and enjoy it.

Well, Ignis could hardly engage in any people watching at these picnics, but he did still rather enjoy them, for the food to judge and tge tradition of it and the occasional interesting conversation that might occur. He was mostly just listening, though, if not for the specifics of the topics of conversation, but just for the general timber and tones that these events inspired.

It had been FAR too long since Dwight had left his apartmet and workshop for more than a quick supply run or a trip to the mainland for inventory. He still wasnt sure about heading over to the pucnic, but he also knew he really shouldnt be hiding out in the workshop.... again. So, here he was, getting a small plate of food and drink and then maybe dissapering back into his safe place.

It would seem that old habits weren't breaking any time soon; even after her time getting familiar with this place and some of its people, Eleanor's natural inclination at these picnics was still to grab a plate loaded up with food and retire to one of tables on the outskirts of the lawn, to pick at the food quietly and watch people thoughtfully as they went about their socializing and meeting.

Only now did Tara deign to grace the island with her now awake presence with a remarkably large yawn and a stretch of her front legs and then wings before finding a tree to settle in to keep an eye on her foolish wizard.

Which was why Gale was lingering near said tree with a plate of food, "My apologies, it appears they are fresh out of beholder jerky for you," he teased.

Was it teasing? It was hard to say if you, by chance, happened to actually know what a beholder was.

Well, it was time for the welcome picnic, so of course Tony was there in case there were yet more new people from back home. Just in case.

So, much too large coffee in hand, he was in for some people watching.

No, really,don't. He wasn't here to be perceived or talked into hanging about to socialize. He just knew that picnics meant food, and so he was trying his best to be sneaky and unnoticed by the food table to find opportunities to snag some for himself, constantly debating between going for more or getting out now while he still had something and no one, yet, had spotted him, maybe.

Belle was still a bit melancholy over one of her friends leaving to embark on a long-planned great adventure but that wasn't going to stop her from attending the picnic.

There were people to see and foods to eat and maybe even new people to meet!

There were people gathering here, and while Lucy was still trying to take a little bit of a slower approach to investigating the town -- well, it wasn't like she thought the Ghoul was going to go to what looked kind of like a party. And gauging by the decorations, they had arrived in town just a little ahead of some other, scheduled new arrivals, and the castle, it seemed, was a school.

Huh.

In any case, Lucy spent way, way too long watching other people go over and help themselves to the food before she also snagged a plate and added a little bit of everything to it, and made her way over to sit politely at a picnic table.

To, maybe a little less politely but she was trying, people-watch a bit.

Annie welcomed any chance she had, really, to get the kids out of the house and socialized a little bit. She found herself a spot at a picnic table, double stroller next to her with Ben still inside -- though, unlike last picnic, the little guy in question was sitting up in his stroller, eagerly watching people from his seat.

Maggie, on the other hand, had been brought out to sit on her mother's lap, mostly because she'd been asking. Or, well, 'asking.' Anyone other than Annie or Diego would have probably just referred to those noises as general baby babble, but even if they couldn't use words, it was getting easier every day to understand them.

It was true that Gladio had, somehow, never been clued into the somewhat ancient tradition of shirtlessness at these functions, but he seemed intent on upholding it all the same, even in his ignorance.

Look, if someone gave him a reason why he needed one, he'll put one back on, but in the meantime...

He had his own traditions to uphold.

Kamala had a plate of food as she was nibbling on as she just stared at most of the people at the party.

Sabine hadn't been to one of these in about a decade, so being back here was a little wild. She grabbed a spot at a table mostly just to watch, also kind of wondering if there was anyone here she'd assume was new but she'd just missed them in like the last six months.

Between the food and the grass she insisted on rolling in and crawling through, Prompto had definitely given up on worrying about keeping Noctra's dress clean and had mostly resolved to hang out on the grass with her and trying to snag all the adorable photographs he could in the meantime.

And Noctra, too, was also occasionally taking her own pictures with her adorable plush camera purse, with an eager shout of "Say Woooookiieeeeee!" every time she 'snapped' a shot.

Look. Dean already knew he was teaching a course this summer. It was a ridiculous class but that’s not why he was here.

He was here for the food. And his plate was piled high and he was digging in.

While Yukari had considered just staying in Japan until the absolute last minute, there was something here today that she couldn't possibly allow herself to miss out on, and that was a free buffet.

So don't mind her, in a happy little bubble of seeing how much those plates could hold in one go and making the most out of it!

Charlie was happy to be here as usual, guitar slung on her back, and enjoying all the good that was available as well as looking over the new people.

All in all a great morning, even if she was missing Graham.
