Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Whoever worked the weather magic around here had done an excellent job to make sure things were nice outside for all the new (and old) residents of Fandom. It was warm and sunny, but not so humid that people would melt. There was plenty of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, places to sit in the shade, and more than enough nametags to go around. It was time to celebrate the start of the summer!

“A cooking and a craft class,” Kamala said with a chuckle. “I was expecting a science or language requirement. Maybe the school is just trying to ease me into it.”

Ahahahaha, oh Kamala. Thinking the school you went to had requirements...

"Which cooking one?" Arden asked. "I know there was one about eating monsters and one about doing unspeakable things to bananas."

"Wait. The monster thing wasn't a misprint?"

Oh.

Oh, no.

Arden shook her head. "I don't think so," she said, and pointed to the dwarf in armor cooking something over a campfire. "I heard him talking to Professor Raiden about hunting dungeons earlier when I was talking to my new little sib."

“Ooooooh.”

That class is probably not halal.

“Well I just have to cook it right? Not eat it?”

Not even a little bit.

"I...guess?" Arden asked, shrugging. "I have some dietary restrictions that meant I didn't want to take the chance and sign up for it."

In typical Kamala fashion, she shrugged and smiled. “I’m sure it’s fine. It’s weird but fine. It’s all fine. I’m fine.”

She took a long deep breath. “Yep. I’m good.”

Arden looked at her. "You sure?" she asked. "Cause it's okay to not be good. We could head to the ladies' room on the first floor if you need to, like, be loudly not good but not in front of people?"

“Nope! I’m good!” She said, shaking her head. “Momentary freak out. I think I’m entitled to at least one.”

Arden laughed and shook her head. "I've been here almost a year and I still get hit with one on a monthly basis at least. You're good."

The laughter put Kamala at ease. “Okay. Well I guess I have that to look forward too. At least there’s good weird. Like the room I’m in? It’s a pocket dimension in the shape of a house. And the house has a mind of their own! My room decorated itself and it’s perfect!”

"I'm in room 1A," Arden said sharing a smile. "Which room is yours?"

There was a happy gasp of surprise followed by “We’re neighbors! I’m in 1F. Oh, I can’t wait to show you my room. It’s so cooool!”

Well, if you’re a fan of superheroes and Captain Marvel it’s pretty cool.

Arden had no idea who that was. Which just meant she was a blank slate, huh?

"Oh, you're tucked away behind the elevators with Gonzo!" Arden said. "I'm right at the top of the stairs."

Because if she needed a fast getaway, the elevator wasn't gonna cut it.

Kamala can make her own stairs so where she landed doesn’t matter. “I haven’t met him. Are the other people in the house cool? Marc seemed gruff but nice.”

"I don't know him well, but Gonzo's always been nice to me," Arden said. "He's, uh, blue and made of felt, you can't miss him. And then there's Illyana who is Russian and scary but not...mean scary? More intimidating, but also pretty cool. Then there's Cal who is, um." She wasn't blushing, you were blushing. "He's really sweet. Just very earnest and fun and str--uh, has an adorable little droid named BD-1."

Way to successfully not gush about your crush, Arden.

"Next to me is Dean. He's loud and brash, but he's got a really big heart and just cares about people immediately. Upstairs is Remy, who is Cajun and can cook and--oh! He used to be a superhero! Then there's Henry, who I haven't met, and finally Steven and Watts. Steven is just a friendly, mild-mannered sweetheart, and Watts is a little more reserved and doesn't always get jokes? But also very nice."

Oh do you think Kamala didn’t pick up on that? Did you?

“Soooooo. Cal? Sounds like he’s pretty nice.”

Arden had no idea what you were talking about or why her face felt warm. "Yup!" she said, in case Kamala was just verifying that she'd heard right. "Between Illyana and Dean, that's him."

Nailed it.

“Is he here? Can you point him out? I want to see how sweet and earnest and fun and str--uhhhhhh he is,” she teased. “Come on. I just hyperventilated over eating monsters in front of you.”

She assumed an authoritative pose which just looked ridiculous. “Confess your crush to me!”

Arden waved a hand at her. "Oh goddess, not in front of the squirrels!" she said, like that either mattered at this point or made sense to Kamala. "But okay, yes, okay, he's here."

Oddly enough and surely just a coincidence, she didn't have to look around to find him in the crowd, she could just turn slightly and point to where he was. Must be a really high passive perception or something.

"That's him," she said, pointing to a tall guy with adorably floofy red hair and a tiny little droid perched on his back, probably on his eighth or so plate of food by this point. "Cal Kestis. He's from space. I think he manages the junkyard?" And then, slightly lower and only because she had witnessed Kamala's momentary freakout, muttered, "And he's got really great arms and I know he's very strong because he carried me back to Midnight one time from, like, the beach on the other side of the island and wasn't even breathing heavy by the time we got there."

Arden had been but for, uh. Different reasons.

“Mashallah!”

She gave Arden a little elbow poke. “Nice. Definitely hotter than most aliens I’ve seen. And he carried you all the way home? Wow.”

She gave a slow nod. “I approve.”

"...You've met a lot of aliens?" Arden asked in what was an incredibly smooth change of topic.

“Oh, yeah, that was a couple of years ago. I got entangled quantumly with two other people and had to go with them to stop this other alien from destroying different planet’s ecosystems,” She explained as she held up her arm and showed off her bangle. She lit it up with the noor energy and let it flow up her hand. “She was after this so she could tear an opening between jump space conduits and steal the energy from our sun. We stopped her. But one of my friends got stuck behind the tear that was made. We’ve been trying to find a way to get her back.”

Arden raised her hand like they were in class. "I'm sorry, what?"

“Sorry? Uh. I have powers. And I’ve been to other planets because of cosmic weirdness,” she explained and did a little peace sign with her energy form. “My favorite planet is where everyone communicates by singing.”
