Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Whoever worked the weather magic around here had done an excellent job to make sure things were nice outside for all the new (and old) residents of Fandom. It was warm and sunny, but not so humid that people would melt. There was plenty of moddable food and drinks, places to sit in the shade, and more than enough nametags to go around. It was time to celebrate the start of the summer!

"Isn't it, though," Charlie said with a grin and reached up to sketch a quick charm to change it to bright blue, then back again. "Makes people look twice."

She nodded back at the food. "Lots of great food here. I highly recommend, well, pretty much all of it, though the pies aren't a patch on my Auntie Ruth's."

Stewart was feeling in that moment that he could stand to look twice, too, blinking slightly as he tried to determine whether his brain had just been too fried by various substances over the years that it was now playing tricks on him all on its own, or if it was merely just something with the lighting. He glanced almost accusing at the sun, then back to Charlie, and then to the food tables.

"I guess I'll have to go over and see what piques my interest..."

At the moment, though, he had to admit, the girl with the potentially color-changing hair was far more intriguing than hot dogs and potato chips, so his attention was back her way.

"Stewart," he offered, "by the way. And who might you be?"

"Sorry!" she said with a grin. "I'm Charlie. Charlie Gale. Nice to meet you, Stewart. You sound like you might be from near my neck of the woods."

Well, now, didn't that just catch Stewart's intrigue, as he found himself looking Charlie over yet again. "Canada?" he asked, then narrowed it down further with an "Ontario?" And then, further still, though his eyes narrowed skeptically, doubtfully, and his voice trilled a little to match: "Letterkenny?"

Which was too small of a town for someone like Charlie to exist in without him knowing about her, reclusive as he could sometimes be, but he felt throwing it in there would help give him a good read on exactly where she might be from if she was, indeed, a fellow import from the Great White North like himself.

"Ontario," she confirmed, "Darsdan East. Not terribly far from Toronto."

Practically neighbors, Stewart!

"Huh." Did the wonders never cease? "Small world, indeed..."

And with this new, oddly comforting in a bizarre, maybe just a touch homesick sort of way, information, Stewart regarded Charlie yet again, and smiled, faintly.

"So...neighbor...what great impetus inspired you to head South of the Border in the pursuits of higher academic enrichment?"

"I'm not good at settling anywhere," Charlie admitted, "So it wasn't that much of a surprise that when my powers came in I turned out to be a Wild power. So the Aunties thought that this place - with so much craziness going on - might be a good way to keep me occupied in one place. SO far, so good!"

Yeah, have fun unpacking all that, Stewart.

There was, yet, just a little bit of squinting as Stewart did try to unpack that, balancing on the edge between two things that seemed to deserve diving into a little deeper. One might bleed easily into the the other, as well, so he eventually just hedged, "What kind of craziness?"

The appeal to chaos, naturally, seemed the better fit.

"Well, a couple of weeks ago people's artwork came to life and rampaged though the streets. And sometimes you want up and you're another gender. And around the holidays sometimes it snows powdered sugar or changes all the water in the taps to eggnog or something," Charlie said easily. "And, you know, every now and then someone gets bit by a gremlins. And the squirrels report on everything for the radio."
