Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Whoever worked the weather magic around here had done an excellent job to make sure things were nice outside for all the new (and old) residents of Fandom. It was warm and sunny, but not so humid that people would melt. There was plenty of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, places to sit in the shade, and more than enough nametags to go around. It was time to celebrate the start of the summer!

Well, he looked kind of different, but... "Steve?"

Steve swallowed his cookie and tried to look respectable. "Yes?" he asked, smiling. "I'm Steve."

So, here was the thing. Don could be fully aware of the multiversal nexus thing, and have already gotten smacked in the face with it by a Jane who was Thor and didn't recognize him but had apparently dated him, and then he saw Steve Rogers, even if he was somewhat different (but then, Don remembered Steve's first beard phase), standing in front of him alive and well and not shot down like a dog on the steps of a federal courthouse, and he opened his mouth and repeated word for word after Thor, "I had thought to find you feasting in Valhalla," like that was a normal thing for a total stranger who certainly didn't look like a Norse god to tell you at a picnic.

Steve blinked for a long, slightly awkward, breath. "...Thor?" he asked.

Oh, brother. "Uh, not...not exactly. It's Don? Donald Blake?" Was this ringing a bell at all...?

Steve looked apologetic, and then guilty for looking apologetic. "Sorry, I don't recognize the name," he said. He held out a hand to shake. "It's very nice to meet you, though. I'm Steve Rogers." His cheeks went pink. "Which you already figured out."

"It's okay. No one does." Except Jane, who did not recognize him. It was fine. He was fine. Not at all developing a complex. "I, uh...I think we're from different universes." Because you were super dead in his. "Sorry to...be weird at you at first acquaintance." Awkward.

"I was very weird when I first arrived," Steve said with an easy smile. "It's fine. There's are a few of us around, but not from the same time. And Tony and are are from different universes, too."

Goddammit, Steve, why did you have to go and mention the T word? Thor rumbled, Stark? Here? and Don, who had been trying very hard to keep him from noticing that, tried to act normal and casual as he asked, "Yeah? Do you...know anything about the universe Tony is from?"

Like was he the head of SHIELD there, and more importantly, had he cloned any of his dead friends lately?

Not that he'd mentioned to Steve! Probably not a good idea to talk about the suits that attacked a few weeks back either, huh?

"I know some," Steve said, nodding. "We've been married for a few years now."

Sorry about your brain, Don.

Whomst among us has not had to beat several evil Iron Man armors to death with the nearest blunt object, Steve?

Don was just...he was just going to stare for a good five to ten seconds before remembering to blink. "Huh," he finally said.

This explains much, Thor observed.

"It really does."

"What really does?" Steve asked.

"Oh, sorry," Don said, shaking his head a little. "That just...that just makes a lot of sense."

Could they have avoided the whole Civil War mess if those two had just made out?

Yes, yes they could've!

"A lot of people say that, regardless of universe," Steve admitted with a smile. "So how do you know other me?"

"Uh," Don said. "Well. It's kind of a long story," that involved Odin being a dick, but what else was new, "but I...was Thor." Literally.

Steve knew Jane, so he knew that Thor was...somewhat transferrable, even if he wasn't exactly sure how that worked...and so he nodded. "Sure," he said. "I can see that."

And explained the Valhalla thing. "Have you found someplace to stay yet?"
