Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Whoever worked the weather magic around here had done an excellent job to make sure things were nice outside for all the new (and old) residents of Fandom. It was warm and sunny, but not so humid that people would melt. There was plenty of moddable food and drinks, places to sit in the shade, and more than enough nametags to go around. It was time to celebrate the start of the summer!

"Me too," Charlie said, "which my actual sisters would find hysterical. But then they're twins and don't really seem to need anyone except each other, so it's all good."

She looked around the gathering. "Looks like a good turnout and it's a beautiful day."

Graham would have loved it, but as Charlie would agree should she have been able to read the narrative, he was off being the knight he'd always dreamed of being.

"I've never stuck around a place with other kids long enough to be a foster sister to anyone," Arden said. "Unsure if I did it right this time, though. Have you talked to Stewart yet? Guy in the bowler hat?"

Charlie looked around. "Not yet, but I'll have to check him out. A bowler hat sounds awesome. Old fashioned guy?"

"Only if 2015 count as old," Arden said. "I think he's just got an intense personal style."

"Ah," Charlie grinned at her. "I can relate, though mine tends more toward odd hair color."

"And I..." Arden looked down at herself, then shrugged. "Mine's evolving," she decided, which was a much nicer way of putting it than 'I don't really have one.'

"What's your new little sib like?"

Charlie considered that for a moment. "Guarded. Doesn't seem all that happy to be here, but nice enough."

Arden nodded. "Showed up accidentally, you think...?"

"I'm not sure," Charlie admitted. "She didn't really have that stunned look on her face that those students do. More like she just wasn't all that pleased with things."

"Oh," Arden mused. "Huh." And then she shrugged. "She'll probably open up in time. I figure anybody who comes to the island expecting...anything really...are going to find themselves surprised, so..."

"Even if you're not expecting anything it's going to surprise you," Charlie teased with a laugh.

"That's very true," Arden laughed. "The Great Equalizer: no matter what, you're gonna be surprised by the island."

"You sure are," Charlie said. "And I figure once we get used to whatever it throws at us, it will change to something even stranger."
