Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Whoever worked the weather magic around here had done an excellent job to make sure things were nice outside for all the new (and old) residents of Fandom. It was warm and sunny, but not so humid that people would melt. There was plenty of moddable food and drinks, places to sit in the shade, and more than enough nametags to go around. It was time to celebrate the start of the summer!

"Well, if I need something fixed, I generally call Dwight...that's him," Jon pointed him out. "Or call someone from the mainland. They probably teach younger people how. There are schools for that, and apprenticeships."

"Where I'm from," Lucy explained, still looking a little confused -- though the idea that people might come over from the mainland to help made sense, and also reassured her (but what if the causeway flooded or something?), "everyone pitches in, and pretty much everything we learn and teach our kids is to make sure we keep things going, no matter what. Art has its place, of course! And cats! But it's -- it's just different."

"That...that sounds really nice, actually." Jon shrugged. "Although I must admit, Fandom has been very welcoming. And everybody comes together if something awful happens. Oh, um. Sometimes...sometimes things just happen. But...but as I said, everybody pulls together, and it's gone well so far."

A flicker of fear darted across Lucy's face, before she steeled herself a little. "What kind of something awful do you mean?"

She could deal with anything. She'd already learned that. But she'd had her safe haven invaded once already, and it had kind of been...you know, the biggest deal.

"Well, um. The last one was that things people had made...had painted, or cooked, or...well, just about anything creative...came to life and attacked. There have been a few things like that. Not all the time, but...well, it isn't exactly rare."
