Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Whoever worked the weather magic around here had done an excellent job to make sure things were nice outside for all the new (and old) residents of Fandom. It was warm and sunny, but not so humid that people would melt. There was plenty of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, places to sit in the shade, and more than enough nametags to go around. It was time to celebrate the start of the summer!

Well, it was time for the welcome picnic, so of course Tony was there in case there were yet more new people from back home. Just in case.

So, much too large coffee in hand, he was in for some people watching.

From about 20 feet away, Kamala was just standing there.

Dumbfounded. Shocked. Shook. All the synonyms.

A picture was taken and sent to Bruno and Nakia. Not Zoe.

Her phone was now lighting up with various versions of “WTF?” that Kamala was too stunned to respond to.

Don got...about half of a glimpse of Tony's face and then turned away quickly. Nope. No way. Absolutely not. In fact, he was staying as far over here on the other side of the picnic as possible and hoping Tony's voice didn't carry to where a certain god of thunder could hear, while working really hard to delude himself that it was just some guy who looked kind of like Tony Stark (without risking a second look), because he did not need to deal with this right now.

Heedless of potential fangirls, Steve made his way across the lawn to Tony, smiling and leaning in for a kiss. "I'm back."

"Just in time!" Tony said, beaming as he leaned in to kiss him back.

"Everyone says hello," Steve said when he pulled back. "It was a whirlwind."

"And you?" Tony asked, reaching up to cup Steve's jaw in his hand for a moment before letting go to be presentable for the public again.

"Grateful for the Skrull detector," Steve murmured.

Tony frowned at that and his expression went tight with concern. "Did something happen?"

Steve nodded. "I met someone in New Orleans. It didn't go all that well."

Tony sighed at that. "I'll be a little more assertive in contacting Nick."

By making a scene until the man had to answer.

Steve nodded. "We need to get everyone together. Things are escalating."

"Have you spoken to your Tony about it?" The whole Rhodey thing was going to cause some brand new issues.

"My next call," Steve said, "once the picnic's over."

That'll go well.

Oh, definitely wouldn't turn into a screaming match as they still couldn't fit things together.

"I'll pick up pizza for after." Just what Steve needed after the usual emotional draining.

"I love you," Steve said. "I'm not sure how the conversation will go."

But he was guessing "not great."

"And beer," Tony suggested. "Pizza and beer."

"You think it's going to go badly," Steve said.

"I think I remember the last time you two had a conversation over the phone," Tony replied diplomatically.

Steve winced slightly. "Yeah. It'll go better than that."

Probably not.

Tony nodded like he doubted it, but didn't have the heart to tell Steve that too his face. "So, pizza and beer in celebration or commiseration."

Steve smiled. "I love you. Yes. Thank you."

Captain America? Steve Freaking Rogers?

He's not on the moon?

And then there was the kissing.

"Oh. My. God."

...

"All my fanfic is coming true."
