Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies.]

Cade was a proud member of the shirtless picnic club, which meant that anyone looking toward him would see a guy (and his scraggly beard) with biceps not normally seen on an almost 18-year-old and at least, depending on their angle, four tattoos.

He didn't want to have to explain the pink, glittery "totes" tattoo on the small of his back, but he would if you were a cute girl.

After a while, Ender drifted away from the teacher's area to his preferred perch somewhere between 'the outskirts' and 'the center' of the group.

He had a small burger on him, which he ate as he watched.

He sat down at a table with a plate of food in one hand and his mobile phone in the other. He could browse the available newbies and check his email. Perfect.

Atton had snagged some food, shoved some liquid (water, but nobody needed to know that) into a bottle with the label pulled off, and then collapsed in the grass.

Who needed picnic tables anyway?

Emma had missed breakfast, so she would be over by the food tables, thank you very much. And if things that looked like they'd keep were going in her bag rather than her belly, what business of that was yours?

It was Gert's birthday, so she was having cake, obviously. It was picnic cake that said something like "Welcome, Newbies" or whatever, but that was fine, because she had scraped the icing off. Gert wasn't a huge fan of anything that was that sweet anyway.

She was reclining under a tree against Old Lace, who was curled around her, and a water bowl and a couple of cans of soda were in their immediate reach. It wasn't a bad birthday so far.

Plus she had her camera ready to document anything weird that might happen. Like someone showing up in his boxers, for example.

Yeah, no, Toby was not a practitioner of shirtlessness. He was a practitioner of "pile his plate as high as he could and look around for interesting people".

Well, if her fashion choices in this heat meant one thing, it was that Mira was going to spend the entirety of the picnic drinking water like a person wearing a lot of leather in this heat.

What? There was no need for figurative language, that description said it all. Don't deny it.

Anyway, she found a water bottle and made her way over to the outskirts of the group to do some people-watching. At least a few of them had to have some kind of bounties on their head, right?

Jessica was here and she actually seemed more relaxed than she had been in a while. She still wasn't happy that President Cap took most of her responsibilities away from her, but it did mean that she didn't have to worry about TOO much on a random newbie picnic Saturday. So she guessed it wasn't all bad.

She grabbed a soda and found a table to sit on as she checked out the newest group of new people.

Yes, free food, the best reason to show up to these picnics. Stiles had a plate loaded with food and was, of course, eating as obnoxiously as possible. Which got downright obscene when he got to the hot dog.

Look, his life was in shambles, let him enjoy the little things, okay?

Anakin would still rather have been back home doing something, running some kind of mission, with Tahiri and the rest of the entourage of Jedi he'd accumulated. (He wouldn't call it that, but Uncle Luke and Aunt Mara would, and that was a large part of why they'd decided to send him back here again.) Instead he was . . . at the picnic, with a plate of food and his datapad in front of him, hair falling into his eyes as he tried to write up a new scenario for the flight sim. The Barabel hatchmates' display of precision flying had given him ideas; maybe they could be adapted to work with Jedi starfighter squadrons.

It was all work, work, work with him, but at least he wasn't in his room, right?

[OOC: Will be prone to SP for large chunks of the day, just as a heads-up. Also, should you choose to interact with him, bear in mind he'll be gone in two days in case that will impact your character somehow.]

Stephanie had considered bringing out a sign demanding shirtlessness because it was a summer picnic tradition, dammit, but she'd had second thoughts about that because as a graduate she wasn't sure if that put her in dirty old lady territory.

Also she'd hate to have to punch someone in the face if the sign got taken as an invitation to get overly flirty.

Well, anyway. There she was, on a blanket under a tree with her back against the tree trunk, drinking a really huge glass of iced tea and watching.

Geez, when did the newbies get so little? Oh god, Brown, you're old now. Help.

Raven was officially no longer one of the new kids. She was sitting back by the food, relaxing and enjoying the sun in her latest sundress, decorated with images of the universe. It was a touch more revealing than her usual fare -- it actually showed the skin on her stomach -- but she was loving it. And if she changed her mind, it was an easy adjustment to cover up.

Being able to just shapeshift into your outfit made shopping for new clothes super easy.

Sia tended to like the picnics, if only for the people-watching. She found a table where she could sit with a drink, watching the crowd, and noting who looked new and/or lost.

Cordelia still wasn't sure about this picnic thing, but she had to admit that it was pretty cool of the school to throw a party to welcome her.

...and those other kids, fine, whatever.

She got a bottle of water, since dying of heat-related thirst wasn't cute, and stood somewhere nice and obvious to check people out. Especially the boys.

His father, shining example of parenting that he was, had given Flick the absolute bare bones story about this place. It was a school, he could hide here while his father figured things out and not to make an ass of himself because he didn't need to draw more attention than already was on him.

Such a good father.

If he'd been any better, he'd have given Flick some money for some clothes but he hadn't. So, the clothes on his back and the meager money in his pocket were going to have to do until he find something to steal and sell.

He'd had better days.

Buffy felt a little weird about being at a school function like this but they did say everybody was invited and she wasn't about to turn down food she didn't have to (attempt to) cook. So she was here nibbling on a plate of food and trying not to feel old.

Alex was curious about what one of these things was like from the non-newbie perspective. Plus, she needed to stop slacking on the whole being social thing. The free food was a bonus.

If you were to ask Sparkle, he'd tell you that, yes, he figured he was rocking the blonde look pretty well, today. He'd also tell you that this was some sort of seasonal plumage swap, so to speak, because it was hotter than Hell outside and the black hair was not cutting it in this weather.

Really, he'd probably have it a different colour in a week or two. The trouble with bleaching dark hair was that roots were a bitch.

In any case, he was bopping around the food table today, stuffing the occasional piece of fruit or muffin or whatever into his backpack, because it was a picnic day, and there was free food, and why the hell not?

Karina had a plateful of fruit and was wandering, nibbling on a few grapes, as she scoped out the newbies and pitied them.

Though, being Karina, she kinda pitied herself more for no longer being a newbie.

Victor lasted almost half the picnic with his shirt on before he decided it was too humid to worry about things like 'being fully clothed' and dumped the shirt by a tree. He was kind of curious about the reactions he'd get.

So Bay's fourth of July back in Kansas City had been ... interesting. Daphne was being pissy with her for God knew what reason, Toby's engagement seemed to be a disaster in progress, and Regina had lasted two whole nights in the Kennish guest house before taking off. Bay was trying her hardest not to take that one personally.

Overall, she was relieved to be back at school. She filled a plate with chips and cookies and tried not to look stressed out, more or less successfully.

Liara... was not at what anyone could describe as her 'best' today. She had half-considered simply not going to the picnic at all, but her growling stomach had eventually driven her out of her room.

She sat near the edge of it all, hunched, staring at her vegetable patty like it was trying to make her cry.
