Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies.]

"It's war," Jono sighed, turning to Kenzi and attempting a smile. Naturally it fell a touch short. Naturally. "We were hoping to avoid it, but of course we wouldn't be so lucky as that."

"Sorry, dude," Kenzi said, with some genuine sadness in there. Just because she'd expected it didn't mean she wanted him in something like that. She held out a root beer Beaver Buzz drink, and said, "You missed Canada Day. But I forgive you. How long are you sticking around for this time?"

"Just the weekend. I need to get back... Armies to lead, wars to win, you know how it goes. I'm only here because after an ambush and an assassination attempt, I'm running a little low on ammunition, so to speak."

Electricity, Jonothon missed you so bloody much.

"It'll probably take the better part of tomorrow for me to finish up here, though. I intend to accomplish very little between now and when I head back there, for the sake of my own sanity."

See, now he was catching on.

"Very cool," Kenzi said approvingly. "'Specially since the last time you were here we all go hit with future versions of ourselves. Eat! Sleep! Lie in the park and let squirrels nest in your hair!"

"That's exactly what I need," Jono snorted. "Squirrels in my hair. If they get comfortable up there, I suppose at the very least I could use them in Glacia as spies. Lord knows they've got experience getting in where they don't belong and digging up dirt on people. All we'd need is rum."

"You should do that. They can report back to us how all you guys are doing." Kenzi was half-serious about this, yup. "There was an ambush? And an assassination attempt?" She sighed, worried. "Everybody's okay from Fandom?"

"Everyone from Fandom seems to be in one piece," Jono agreed, nodding. "We did lose a few Glacians in the first battle, but they lost more. Now I think I'm going to have to have our scouting teams step it up some. I don't want to be caught unawares like that a fourth time."

The attack on the hunting party, the battle, the hotel fire... Jono was fed up with being reactive in this war, waiting to be attacked and then dealing with it.

Kenzi made a dissatisfied humming noise. "It's too bad we can't just call them and tell them they won Superbowl tickets. Or Stanley Cup tix. Have 'em all show up, arrest them!"

Look, she might've had a couple uncles who were dumb enough to fall for that. (Once.)

"It occurs to me that I don't even know if the Blood play sports." Jono looked a little stunned at that revelation, yes. "Kind of knocks down any chances that some of them'll choose to stay out of the war on account of playoff season, really."

"Eight months of winter," Jono offered, raising an eyebrow and mulling over that some more. "I would be tempted to introduce them to hockey in light of that, if I gave half a damn about that sport. I've always been a football fan, myself."

A beat.

"Proper football."

Kenzi wrinkled her nose, and looked thoughtful. "Drinking season!... that's how the Russians do it. And the hockey. Falling down on ice while drunk has to cut into fighting time a little. And I dunno, Boss, introducing them to Soccer... wasn't that about kicking someone's head around?"

Maybe she'd been reading too much Cracked?

It was probably apparent that Jono was not pleased with Hobart.

Kenzi cackled. "Theeere you go. Heh." She cocked her head. "Anything I can do from here to help? Make up posters of this Hobart guy? Figure out a way to steal his... family jewels?"

Jonothon's mouth quirked a little. Interesting choice of phrasing there, Kenzi.

"Actually, there might be. If I wanted to make somebody's life miserable in a way that doesn't involve actual, life-threatening weaponry..." He tilted his head a little, considering. "Say, a present of sorts to leave behind for someone you dislike with a vengeance to come across later... what would you suggest?"

Something annoying, but non-lethal. Something that would boost the morale of his own troops, more than actually giving them any sort of upper-hand.

"I left Karla a bust of a horse's head once," Kenzi mused. "She hadn't seen Godfather. And apparently she was really attached to her childhood pony. So I felt bad about it later. But at the time... heh." She looked speculative and said, "Something he wouldn't want to touch. Something in his private room, bedroom for preference. Oh! Animal skeletons. Like, birds or what's his symbol? Does he have one? Just knowing someone got in, and got out, and he has to let the cleaning people know...." Ahahaha!

Jonothon raised an eyebrow, but there was definitely a smirk pulling at the corners of his mouth.

"I wouldn't be crazy enough to take my soldiers on a tour through the estate in Sidra just to smear shite on his walls," he noted, thoughtfully. "But the man travels from time to time, I'm sure... I might have to keep that in mind."

He did remember how attached Karla was to that pony, at least. He'd been involved in that D&D game, at least until his ugly side started to show and he had to back off.
