Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies.]

Buffy felt a little weird about being at a school function like this but they did say everybody was invited and she wasn't about to turn down food she didn't have to (attempt to) cook. So she was here nibbling on a plate of food and trying not to feel old.

And then there was the "Are you kidding me?" that came with Cordelia spotting Buffy.

Strike two, school!

It had been awhile since Buffy had seen Cordelia but there were just some voices you didn't forget. Especially when said voice is screeching because of you. Buffy didn't know what she expected when she turned to face the voice in question but she certainly didn't expect this. "Cordelia? What--you look..."

She looked like she was about to make Buffy feel really old.

"...Why are you so old?"

So there was that.

"Hey! I am not old!" She just wasn't a teenager anymore. "I'm not even twenty-five yet."

She was about six months from it but not technically twenty-five! So she was still young, so there.

"Twenty-five?" Oh, so many questions! "I repeat, why are you old? You're supposed to be seventeen and off ruining lives, or whatever your hobbies are."

To be fair, she'd never known any of Buffy's hobbies. Angel, maybe.

"Okay, again, not old." It was an important distinction to make! "I'm exactly the age I'm supposed to be...actually I'm supposed to be older."

Thirty-four. Ugh.

"Do you even know what year it is here?"

"What kind of question is that?"

Which meant no, she totally thought it was 1998.

"Uh a pretty darn good one considering it's 2013 and you're dressed like it's the late 90's." That's what you get for calling her old, Cordelia!

Re: Mingle, Mingle, Mingle [Summer 2013 - II]

[identity profile] haslayers.livejournal.com 2013-07-06 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, ha! She was so thrown off by the year that she didn't even register the insult! Wait, was that a win?

"What do you mean it's 2013?" she demanded. "How long was I asleep on the plane?"

Buffy rolled her eyes. "This place is...special. Sunnydale special, but with more time travel and alternate universes."

Cordelia stared at her. "Well, great. Isn't that just great. Why don't they put that in the brochure!"

"Well they'd hardly get any visitors that way," Buffy said. "Or they'd just get weirdos who are into that sort of stuff."`

Re: Mingle, Mingle, Mingle [Summer 2013 - II]

[identity profile] haslayers.livejournal.com 2013-07-06 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like you?" she asked, totally seriously.

[identity profile] abakingmetaphor.livejournal.com 2013-07-06 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am not into that sort of stuff," Buffy said. "I just happen to get involved with it often. I thought this place was normal when I came here too. That lasted about ten minutes."

[identity profile] haslayers.livejournal.com 2013-07-06 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"So, what, you go around killing all the vampires around here too?" Cordelia asked. "Because I'm not helping with that."

Not that anyone would ask her. She was just saying.

[identity profile] abakingmetaphor.livejournal.com 2013-07-06 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh actually the vampires here aren't like that. Allegedly," she said. "I'm working for one. And my some of my coworkers are werewolves. It's just like Sunnydale. Except all the supernatural creatures are niceish."

"Oh, good, then at least I don't have to worry about any apocalypses anytime soon." Don't be too sure about that, Cordy. "Apocalypsi?"

"You know I'm still not sure about the plural on that." You think she would have nailed that down by now. "And I didn't say that. Dangerous stuff still happens. Just not once a week."
