Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies.]

Victor looked sheepish. "I think they are, but I'm not the star chart expert. But mainly I just wanted to say hi."

He completed that statement with a dorky wave. "Hi. Good picnic so far?"

"Hi," Raven said back with a smile and a wave in return. "I'm having fun so far. You?"

"It's a good picnic," Victor said. "They gave me a new little sister, so that's cool. And it's always fun to people-watch at these things."

"She seems really normal," Victor said, after a pause. "Like, she's from L.A., 2013, nothing that really ... sticks out. Nice girl, though."

"We're still in SP but I think it's better to know coming in, don't you?" Victor asked rhetorically. "That way if you really can't deal, you can take off before you get all moved in or anything."

"That sounds like a good philosophy to me," Raven said. "Though hopefully she has something weird in her world she can relate things to. My world has mutants, so it wasn't a stretch to get to aliens and time travel and things. If it didn't, I might have though people were just lying to me."

"I don't know what I would have thought," Victor said thoughtfully. "My best friends at home these days are a mutant, a witch, an alien and a guy whose parents were mad scientists. Imaging my world without them is like -- imaginging being a totally different person."

"You'd probably be a different person without them," Raven pointed out. "How'd you end up with such a neat group of friends?"

"My mom got killed," Victor said, after just the faintest hesitation. "I didn't have a lot of options, and they let me hang out with them."

Or wanted to keep an eye on Ultron's kid. Same difference.

"It's a whole fighting bad guys thing," he added, matter-of-fact. "So there's a reason most of 'em have powers."

"So . . . they formed their own little superhero army?" This wasn't really a thing yet when Raven was from. "That's . . . really cool. Are you a superhero, too, then?"

"Pretty much, yeah." Victor had skipped a couple details, but he figured he'd gotten the essence across. "And ... I'm kind of half robot. So I'm good with computers, electricity, metal, stuff like that."

Raven blinked. "I didn't actually know someone could be half-robot."

"It's tissues grown from human DNA on a cybernetics core," Victor explained. "Way, way advanced science. Don't think anybody was doing anything like it in the '50s."

"Doesn't sound familiar," Raven said. "But they did some strange things during the war. We may never really know."
