Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies.]

Emma wasn't even going to think about the ice cream until she'd had her fill of everything else, but she rolled her eyes when she noticed the unmeltingness. "The school has it's own island, of course it has air-con for the food too."

That probably wasn't it, Emma.

Probably not, no. But Toby was the kind of person who left the "and magic is real!" Conversations to other people. "I'm Toby, by the way," he introduced himself, sticking out the hand that wasn't balancing a chips-and-dip filled plate.

"Emma," she said, taking the offered hand warily.

That wariness was definitely familiar; enough so that he wasn't going to press to find out if she had ended up here on purpose. "How's everything so far?" He opted for, instead. Sure, as small talk went it was pretty vague, but that meant she was free to interpret the question however she wanted.

"The food's good." The food was a nice, safe, tasty topic. "I've had worse." And recently too.

Sympathy flickered across Toby's face for a moment at the 'I've had worse'. "It's pretty standard for this place," he shared. "They really like to go all out."
shippedtomaine: (Nope. No idea what you mean.)

"I guess if you can afford it, what's to stop you going all out." It made sense that rich people would want their kids well fed.
