Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies.]

"And still, you shun sleeves," Jessica noted. "So sad."

"I'm a man of many layers," Cade said, "so I don't need many layers of clothing too."

He thought he was Very Clever coming up with that.

"So since I usually wear a few layers, I'm simple?" Jessica checked. She was just messing with him, of course.

"Well, I didn't say it," Cade teased.

"Wow," Jessica said. "That hurts me deep down, right here." She tapped her chest right over her heart. "Somewhere under all of these many layers of clothes."

"Maybe you should take some of the layers off."

It was worth a try, right?

"Hmm. Maybe you don't have as many layers as you claimed," Jessica noted.

"Maybe most of them are concerned with just a few things," Cade replied.

"Then they're kind of redundant," Jessica said. "Which is usually a good thing in design since it accounts for possible system failure. But in your case, I think the main layer that's focused on naked girls is going to be running fine for a while."

"Well, it never hurts to have another couple ready just in case," Cade said, chuckling.

"You keep thinking that," Jessica said. "I'm sure it'll work out."

"Maybe on the new girls," Cade said. "The rest of you are too smart for me."

"That's actually one of the best compliments you've ever given me," Jessica teased.

Cade grinned. "Maybe I've missed seeing you around."

"Well, if there's one thing I'll be for a while, it's around," Jessica said. "A lot of things got resolved back home and I'm officially just a consultant with the work I was doing until I'm 18."

"Is that a good thing?" Cade asked, frowning.

"It's a mixed thing. The President told me specifically that he wants me to focus on my studies and being a teenager," Jessica said. "It was a little bit weird."

Cade blinked. "You got a meeting with the President and he told you to stay in school."

"The leader of the team I work with won a special election without even running. Long story. Weird story. But yeah, that's what happened," Jessica said.

"You haven't suddenly become a dictatorship, right?" Cade checked.

"Oh, no, not at all. The Secretary of Energy became President when DC was blown up. A shadowy cabal in Congress couldn't control him as well as they wanted to, so they forced a special election. And most of the country voted for Cap with a write-in vote because while the politicians were playing all of these games, he was going out there and fighting to save people and bring the country back together," Jessica said. "I mean, he's pretty quick to resolve problems by flying his jet to the problem and punching it right in the face, but that's really what we want and need right now."

Cade chuckled. "I'm a big fan of facepunching, too. I would have voted for him."

"I'm kind of biased since he pardoned my fugitive status, but he has my full support," Jessica said. "Even if he did basically tell me that I can't work for him until I'm legal."

"From what you told me about your last trip home, seems like you could use the break," Cade commented.

"Oh, no, that was two trips home ago now," Jessica said. "My last one was to attend the inauguration and then fight a war in Wyoming, because yep, that happened."
