Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Well.

It was raining popsicles and suntan lotion today. Because Fandom liked to make the newbies cry sometimes. Yes, the island had a sense of humor about these things.

We've all learned to accept that and move on with our lives. Well, all of us except for Britta. But she's the worst.

Alec had a nametag over his traditional ratty black sweater, and between that and the fact that it was way too hot for sweaters, his customary scowl was in place and it was intense.

Also, he'd stepped in a melted popsicle. This place was quickly becoming Not His Favorite.

Clearly his big sibling had some work to do in terms of getting him excited for life on the island. Clearly.

Frank was maybe a little bit excited about getting his own little sibling to help to guide in the ways of Fandom. You could tell from how he was smiling and kept adjusting his collar to look all professional, and was toting around a popsicle, some sunscreen and some lemonade to actually give to this girl when he found her.

His name was printed on his nametag in clean, legible handwriting, and he was excited for this. Dork.

Liara felt terribly disoriented.

She'd woken up not too far from here just a few minutes ago, and now she'd taken to wandering around in a daze, spotting only aliens of a species she didn't actually recognize.

By pure luck, she'd come to a stop somewhere near the table with the nametags. Well-- it would've been lucky if she'd be able make out any of the markings on the labels.

Then the omni-tool on her arm lit up suddenly. "Receiving translator update..."

She couldn't help it. She jumped.

Stannis frowned with disapproval at the nametag, but he donned it dutifully, on the opposite side of his Baratheon stag, so as not to cover it.

Evan was actually feeling kind of okay with this, by the time he went to put on his nametag. Only one person had really made a big deal of his face in the shuttle lounge, and it wasn't for the reason he'd expected, so he was kind of figuring he was in the clear.

He smiled a little as he stuck his nametag neatly on his chest, and then looked around to see if he could find his new sibling.

Sparkle was grinning at the sibling list. Just grinning. Broadly. Ear-to-ear.

"Maybe," he said to himself as he slapped his nametag on. "Maybe."

Or, well, Maeby. But he figured there were good odds that he'd have to spend another semester threatening to punch people who laughed at his name, he'd better get all the enjoyment out of the fresh blood that he possibly could.

Great, some sort of fostering program? She should've expected this.

But despite making plans to blow this joint as soon as she could, she'd promised Officer Friendly she'd try to take advantage of the opportunity, so she sighed and slapped on a nametag with "Miriam Black" scrawled on it.

Current students who had been assigned new rooms and/or roommates had been handwavily informed of the change.

Alec had known roommates would be involved in this process since he'd spoken to Jace, but that didn't mean he was exactly thrilled about it. Still, though. He could be nice. He'd totally been nice in the past. You know. Once, or... or maybe twice. No, probably once. But he could do it again.

Even if right now he just looked a bit intense.

Stannis supposed he should not be too terribly surprised that he might have to share his quarters with another young man; for the size of the town and the castle, there was a decent amount of people here on Fandom Island, and it seemed his lot in life to be uncomfortable anyway.

His amiability to the idea quickly faded once he found the list and took a gander at it to educate himself on his living arrangements. At first, he thought perhaps he had read it wrong, that the journey had made him tired and unable to see in a straight line, but every which way he looked at it, it still paired him up with the same, terrible name.

"No," he said, simply, to utterly deny that this was happening.

Arietty had been assigned a room.

How this had happened when she'd only arrived here by falling through a hole, she had no idea, but apparently she had a room, and she had a roommate, and there were beans everywhere and she'd wanted adventure when she'd left home, and she sure seemed to have managed to find one.

She found a cup to hide behind near the roommate assignment list, and peered out at the passing beans, trying to read nametags without getting spotted.

Of course Deadpool was there for the picnic. He had a teaching buddy to hunt down and a teaching partner to... hunt down.

Jaime Lannister had been well on his way to Riverrun when he had, somehow, managed to lose the entire column of men he'd been riding with. He had even managed to lose his squire.

Well. He'd never thought this whole 'losing' thing would spiral quite so out of control after he lost his hand as well.

Ah ha.

At least he had a sense of humor about him as he eyed the strange crowd gathered there. And then he was struck in the head by a sweetened chunk of ice. His day was just getting better and better.

So, seriously, they gave this guy a teaching buddy. Why would anyone do that? WHY?

A better question was probably why he was sitting on a bucket labeled "Icy Hot." He had his reasons.

...not that she needed the suntan lotion. She didn't need help for that. Ha.

So, you know. Thumbs hooked into her belt loops, slightly smug expression, the occasional tilt of her head as if trying to listen to something-- the usual. Okay, that last bit was new. Whatever.

Ender - looking tanned and like he'd just gotten off the portal - walked into the picnic fairly early, his eyes trained on the other teachers. He had a mission here, something to do before getting on his next portal back to Naboo a few hours later.

It had not escaped him that this would be his last welcome picnic here. It just didn't make him as nostalgic as it probably should.

Okay. So they hadn't been joking when they'd said this posting was... different.

Kaidan - nametag neatly attached to the appropriate above-the-breast-pocket location on his Alliance casual uniform - frowned up at the sky. Occasionally, his kinetic barriers (had to be careful, so he'd come in wearing shield emitters under his casuals) flared up blue as something struck it.

"Remind me to thank Alliance brass for giving me all the details," he murmured under his breath.

Well. The shuttle bus to the island has been surprisingly uneventful, so Samus really couldn't complain. She was skipping the snacks and the drinks, though, keeping a cool eye on the picnic in process. She had been here for a long time without anything happening, but she was alive today because she knew to always be vigilant. There was still a reason she was on this island, and it sure as hell wasn't teaching.

Okay, well, maybe right now, it was going to be a little teaching, but...anyway...At least the Suit came equipped with AC.

Kotetsu was already looking disgruntled about this. Already. On top of being pretty much told by the company that he was being transferred for a few months to some place where he'd be less likely to cause as much property damage, he'd been told by Ben that he could think of it as a promotion if he wanted to. A promotion? To teacher? Look, Ben, Kotetsu wasn't always the brightest crayon in the box, but you better believe he remembered the old adage about those who couldn't do, and what they ought to be making of those skills they had instead.

And to top it off, there was a smear of sunscreen across the top of his hat. He'd been worried for a moment that it was bird crap, until he'd realized that it was falling everywhere and had ducked under a tree for shelter. It would be easy enough to wash out later, but for the time being... Sunscreen. Hat. Teaching. Come on.

Valentine had to admit, out of all the different perspectives from which to be attending the picnic, this was possibly her favorite so far, though there had been a little bit of timid excitement when she first ventured onto this lawn as a student. As a teacher, though, even if only for a brief semester, she was nothing but confident, and she was enjoying a soda in one hand, a hot dog in the other, wondering which poor bastards out there were stuck with a Wiggin, either one, in charge of their classroom.

Ronan had been a little surprised to see two notes about teaching buddies, but he figured that it couldn't be that hard.

The air hovering over his head, however, was hard. He had to keep the sunblock and popsicles off of him somehow, so. Shield spell it was!

No, the Librarian wasn't a teacher, but he was a librarian, which meant that he was sort of the keeper of the kind of knowledge that teachers used, and there was free food, besides, and he was always happy to come out from his nest to enjoy free food.
