Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the not-so-great weather earlier in the week, the weather today looked nice and... well, decent for the end of December, and while the rest of town might still have signs of last week's snow, there were no traces left outside the school. (It just meant one less uncomfortable question for the big siblings to deal with, you're welcome.)

The buffet table was ready, set as far as possible from the glittered-out blue and gold tables and chairs. The winter bonfire was crackling for warmth and food-toasting opportunities. The lists of siblings and roommates had been double-checked. It looked like everything was ready for a picnic!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

It had all happened so fast. A week ago her father had informed her that he would be sending her off to school to further her training, and just this morning she'd been home in Zephrah.

And now here Keyleth was, stepping through the doorway that manifested in the trunk of a large tree on the school grounds then quickly closed up behind her. She was wide-eyed, nervously keeping a white-knuckled grip on her staff -- and wincing when she realized that her ears were not taking the sudden change from high altitude to sea level gracefully.

At least she knew she was supposed to be arriving at the welcome picnic and that someone would be assigned to help get her used to the place, so taking in all the tables and people was thankfully not too much of a shock. Still. It was all kind of scary and very nearly overwhelming, and she was seriously considering just turning herself into a squirrel or something and hiding out on a branch to watch.

She'd thoroughly forgotten to look for a nametag with her name on it, but it was easy to tell she was new by how out of place she looked, right?

Hey, the school had assigned Norman to somebody again this semester! Norman was here keeping an eye out for a Kagura, not terribly certain what to expect, but cautiously optimistic.

She probably wouldn't worry him as much as his last sibling did, right...?

Vette had no idea what the heck she was supposed to do with a little sibling around here, considering she barely understood this stupid world herself. But she was here and she was totally game, keeping an eye out for anybody that might be named Jack.

Oh, heeey! Prompto got himself a sibling! And he felt all weirdly proud about that, that here he was, being all responsible and showing some new fresh faced new kid the ropes, like Sabine had done for him all of a handful of months ago. But he had learned a lot since then, and now it was time to impart that wisdom to someone else.

...who was apparently a princess. He didn't know if it was just random chance, or someone's idea of a joke, or just the fact that it was apparently his lot in life to be wingman to royalty, but it should be interesting. And the two princes he was friends with were both so different from each other as it was that he didn't even know what to expect with this one. But he was going to try to keep an eye out for someone who looked princess-y. Or who, at the very least, had ENTRAPTA on her nametag.

Whewboy. What a name.

Thought the guy named Prompto.

Trevor had taken a nap on the 'magical cart', fully assuming he'd come to from this fever dream. But instead he woke up here. So.

His day was getting pretty weird.

And there was a terrible slip of paper with his full name on it which he attempted to crush, but found sticking to his hands. "God shits in my dinner," he muttered to himself.

She found her name tag, and in a fit of meaningless teen rebellion, stuck it in her back pocket instead of putting it on. If people wanted to know her name they'd have to ask!

Kat hadn't taken the shuttle. If she had, maybe she would be a little bit prepared for things like the fact that she was in entirely the wrong state. In the wrong year.

Or that the school assigned "big brother" (that she was not actually looking for, thank you, she was fine) would be who he was.

A roommate. She was supposed to have a roommate. Sure, it was one thing to intellectually grasp that this was going to be another object lesson in how to get along with people -- as if that had ever come easily to her -- but it was another thing to think about how she was going to have to share a room with someone she'd never met before. Because that was kind of terrifying, and Keyleth was trying not to think about it too much.

Hey now! Karolina was a responsible adult! Sure, she was also closer in age to the students than she was to most of the other staff, but, still an adult!

And she loved the newbie picnics, so of course she was here to see what the new crop of students (and teachers) looked like. In her double pom pom beanie because that was how this responsible adult rolled.

Fjord was here, of course. He was really rather expected to be, after all, and he had to admit he was curious about this current batch of kids. Maybe a good look at them would let him get some idea of things they might need to learn in his class this semester.

Yes. That was absolutely why he was here, and not at all so that he could check out the picnic tables to see if there was anything he could bring back to his sick and dying (slightly overdramatic) elf friend.

He could multitask.

Jono was here today. Actually more or less all here today, in fact, with his arms crossed over his chest as he leaned back against one of the tables, ignoring the food entirely and keeping an eye on the students.

He hadn't wrapped up today, no. Some years, he just figured it was kinder to get the shock of a teacher on fire out of the way right up front.

Kanan was a tiny bit later showing up to the picnic than he might have been otherwise, since he had some truly terrifying bus decorations to clean up before he left the shuttle at the parking lot.

If it meant that he was showing up here covered head-to-toe in a dusting of glitter, holding a large collection of balloons in one hand and a small toy bus in the other... well. He'd had a day. And was absolutely tying the balloons to a picnic table to hand out to anybody who happened to want one. Welcome to Fandom or whatever.

Rosa had pretty much just ridden back onto the island that morning after dealing with far too much holiday cheer, which meant she'd only just found out about what class she was teaching this semester, which....was not the class she had submitted at all.

So there was everyone's favorite cop-turned-teacher in her black leather jacket, glowering at everything in irritation, trying to figure out if there was someone she could punch over it. Probably that moose in the office. She...was mostly deciding that she was definitely not above punching a moose.

It should also be noted that glowering at everything in irritation would probably be what Rosa would be doing even without the news of her class this semester, but there was just that tiny little bit of extra murder in her glare today instead.

And then there was Amaya, who was neither particularly thrilled nor irritated for having to be there, just generally pleased with another round of what was feeling comfortable and familiar, keeping an eye out for unfamiliar faces so she could track down this new Teaching Buddy of hers.

...though she supposed, considering her track record, she might have better luck finding them if she headed over to the beach instead of sticking around the picnic.

Kanan had told her about the picnic. Free food was a thing not to be missed. She was curious about the other students and most especially about any that might've signed up for her class.

It had been a little bit of a surprise to Jack that anyone had. For once she's moderately dressed in untorn black jeans, a matching black t-shirt with 'LIFT LIKE A KROGAN' printed on it and the image of a Krogan throwing someone in the air with rays of white light. Most people here wouldn't get the joke and she didn't care at all. Cold enough that she had her leather jacket on but open and her feet strapped into knee-high nightmares of leather, buckles, and metal bits that pretended to be boots.

She looked, if anything, bored. She was trying for 'Hi I'm your teacher and totally open and approachable'. 'Bored' was about the closest she could manage. Jack looked at the kids milling about while she grazed the table and tried to pick out what she wanted to eat.

Soooooo...this was the new school, huh? This was what Sweet Dee had signed up for. Some weird little island castle school off the coast of Maryland that was not doing a very good job of fitting her expectations of being some hoity-toity fancy British school or something where she'd totally win everyone over with her perfect (not even close) accent and effortless (again, not even remotely) charm, and wind up winning over some posh English version of Josh Groban or a prince in disguise or something. But, no, this was definitely giving off more of a budget Barry Plodder-meets-ComicCon bullshit vibe, and she was so not into that.

What a bunch of losers.

So this first impression was not great, as she sort of stood there wondering why she'd bothered coming all the way (so, so far, you guys) from Philly just for...this...while drinking deeply from a can of soda that was so not big enough.

Because that can of soda was absolutely filled with wine.

Or it was, about five minutes ago.

Magnus was once again rocking his sleeveless Candlenights sweater over the armor, but he was doing it cheerfully. Which was what made all the difference.
