Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the not-so-great weather earlier in the week, the weather today looked nice and... well, decent for the end of December, and while the rest of town might still have signs of last week's snow, there were no traces left outside the school. (It just meant one less uncomfortable question for the big siblings to deal with, you're welcome.)

The buffet table was ready, set as far as possible from the glittered-out blue and gold tables and chairs. The winter bonfire was crackling for warmth and food-toasting opportunities. The lists of siblings and roommates had been double-checked. It looked like everything was ready for a picnic!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"No, I'm Magnus." At least he didn't do the 'No, this is Patrick' meme at that. It was a near thing.

"No," said Sweet Dee, shaking her head, shaking a finger at him, and not even worrying about spilling her wine, that was the brilliance of wine in a can! "No, you are. You definitely are. You're nerdy Mac. Do you even own any shirts with sleeves still on them?"

She would bet a whole 'nother wine in a can that he didn't.

"Y--yes? Yes." Wow, failed the fuck out of that deception roll.

"Yeah," Sweet Dee snorted, totally convinced, as she smirked and toasted her wine in a can to Nerdy Mac before another swig, "sure, whatever you say, Nerdy Mac. I'll believe it when I see it. But, uhhh, but, hey, at least I know we're safe, right? You're probably giving 'ocular pat downs' all over the place, right? Assessing the 'threat level' or whatever it is you guys do."

"I mean, I totally do that," he admitted. "But that's because I'm a highly trained warrior."

Yeah, that wasn't going to convince her he wasn't Nerdy Mac, huh?

Not even a little bit. So help her, if he started talking about Fight Milk...

"Sure you are," said Sweet Dee, who was discovering that next time, she definitely needed a bigger can. "Hey, you don't happen to have any family living around Philly, by any chance, do you?"

"Noooo. Just West Virginia and Texas." But man, wouldn't it be weird if he did?

Ewww.

"My condolences," said Sweet Dee, who actually sounded a little bit sincere about that, too.

Yeah, but if anyone played Take Me Home, Country Road, he was legally required to sing along and ugly cry while he did it.

"Yeah, fuck Texas."

Sweet Dee felt the same way about Runaway Train, which had nothing to do with any sort of regional affiliation, it was just a true fact of nature.

"Right?" Sweet Dee said, a little surprised that she and Nerdy Mac could find a common ground, but it wasn't too bad, really. "I mean, I've never been there, but there's obviously a reason for that."

Well, Nerdy Mac was a big fan of 'yes, and?' for every situation. And making his little brother cry by fucking up his plots in the live shows.

"But pretending to be in a Western is be super fun. But only if people play Jock Jams on an old timey piano when you walk up to a saloon."

And now Sweet Dee was left wondering if there had ever been a steel horse on which Nerdy Mac had ridden.

"I'll have to take your word for it on that one, Nerdy Mac," she told him, and would have toasted again, but her wine can was sadly empty at this point. She really should have brought reserves.

"So, what are you, then? You teach at this school, too? What do you even teach?"

They let you teach here, Deandra, don't even act surprised.

That wasn't thinking ahead. You gotta always have your inventory on you. AB.. I. Always Be Inventorying.

"Problem solving. But, you know, with your fists." That was a terrible class, but so very him.

"How is that a class?"

It didn't sound like a class. It did sound like something a Nerdy Mac would totally pretend was a class, but it was definitely no way an actual class.

"Last semester I taught teamwork from weird 80's pamphlets." So, yeah. This school had very low standards.

And now Sweet Dee was wondering if Nerdy Mac might be interested in a very unique investment opportunity...

...and whether she could turn that into a class.

She wasn't smart, no, but she could be clever when she needed to be.

"....how'd that work out for you?" she asked, since she really couldn't think of anything else to say to that.

"My buddy Cara--" He glanced around to find her, but came up lacking. "You'll know her when you see her. She wears a lot of red leather. A lot. But we did pretty good. Had an 80's montage in it and some synergy and stuff."

Everything. Just...everything, coming out of his mouth right now. How was this not Mac? How did she come all the way from Philly and the first person she talked to was basically Mac?

And though she was already convinced fifty times over, she still had to keep asking.

"You don't...own a black leather duster, by the way, do you?"

"Only in PUBG." Magnus, what even.
