Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whatever aspect of the island made sure the weather was nice on picnic day didn't seem to be able to control the temperature. It wasn't freezing, but it would definitely more comfortable out on the lawn with a coat on. Thankfully, the conditions were just right for a bonfire in the center of the lawn, so people could gather and stay warm once they'd made their introductions.

Once the tables and chairs were set up and everything was properly glittered, all that was needed were people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Well there wasn’t so much scarring at this point. Just a rather large amount of confusion. However Enola was going to take it in stride. In the meantime she was most interested in all the different styles of clothing people were wearing.

And Miles was there! Holding up a sign that said “Lydia” much like he was a limo driver at an airport. He also had a gift basket on his arm as he intended to be the best big sibling ever.

Well, you know what? Five had gone along with the ridiculous little shuttle. He'd gone along with coming to this equally ridiculous picnic, but attending school? That was just a bridge too far.

He crumbled up his name tag and tried to throw it away, but it stuck to his hand. Because of course it did.

Joke was on him, there were only so many new students. Process of elimination, bitch!

Wei Wuxian was determined to be a great big brother. He drew a sign that said BELLE in his best English lettering and decorated it with lotus flowers and (since there was still room) a bunny. He also packed a small gift bag to introduce his new little sister to some local treats - a bottle of tequila, with margarita mix, a bag of Flaming Hot Cheetos, and five glitter talismans (his own invention).

He stood by the sibling meet area and held up the sign. He wore his usual black and red robes and had his flute tucked in his belt.

Current students who had been assigned new rooms and/or roommates had been handwavily informed of the change, but the list had been posted for everyone to see at one of the tables:

Lydia - who had made herself a nametag with her own name printed in spidery handwriting and stuck it to her chest - looked around for someone who looked like she might be named Belle.

That had better be a girl's name. There was no way she could handle living with a boy. She'd pitch herself out a window or try out that new 'I'm too old for school' excuse earlier than planned if she had to live with a boy.

So she was a teacher again, albeit just to get to go on free vacations. And, although she might not admit this, to keep herself busy.

Seivarden had brought a tea flask, to be sure to find some decent tea, and waited to see who would show up.

Lucille had also joined the group of people sharing one class. She had been curious when the possibility had come up, and had decided to try it, on a whim.

Now she was here waiting for a familiar person who where supposed to be her... 'teaching buddy'?

"This feels weird."

But he was still gonna chill over here, in his heavy red leather coat - under which he was actually wearing a shabby white shirt, thank god - his white hair hanging over his eyes as he watched everything around him with a kind of perturbed amusement.

Riding the high that was NYE straight into the thrill that went along with the Welcome Picnic meant that Summer was pretty sure she had a pretty big mega-crash of some sorts ahead of her, but, whatever, that was a problem for Future Summer, because it was time for the Welcome Picnic, and she had a new Teaching Buddy to terrify into mostly hiding (she was pretty sure that was what happened with the last one...), and she just really loved Welcome Picnic day, okay? Geez.

Karolina was here, looking excited, with her usual GUIDANCE COUNSELOR Karolina name tag with rainbow stickers on her chest. She was looking around for an Annie - she was pretty sure she knew what she looked like, but she was still kind of hoping for a name tag.

Or that she'd mingled harder at the party on Thursday.

Nick missed his flight, which meant he missed the shuttle, which meant he was slightly late in getting to the picnic. But it was okay! He was here!

Kind of wishing the drink options included beer so he could pretend he wasn't questioning this whole thing, but here.

Just as he had suspected, Ignis could say with confidence that taking the newbie shuttle to the island had done nothing to enhance his experience, despite what the Argentums seemed to think, but at least he was here now, at the picnic, where...

...the surreal nature of the situation was beginning to dawn on him and settled in. To be here in a capacity that had nothing to do with Prompto and absolutely without Noctis was...

...well. It was different, to be sure.

But there was nothing to be done about it now, he supposed, except perhaps hoping that whatever they had by way of coffee here at the picnic was at least marginally better than what he had been subjected to at the bus terminal.

You know, Shunsui always said he came to these things to puruse the crowd and pick out any particularly beautiful women that might have come in with the new batch of teachers, but he really just sort of showed up, had some food and some sake, and ended up napping beneath one of the trees before too long...

But he was there, he did have an eye out for any particularly beautiful wome that might have come in with the new batch of teachers, and he had not fallen asleep underneath one of the trees yet...

Tony had come back from vacation in time for the welcome picnic, so he looked pleased as he drank his coffee and kept an eye out for any familiar faces.

Which could be difficult with the many universes out there.

Well, Annie was pretty glad she'd decided to check this out today, since surprise, she was apparently teaching.

At least it was something she knew her way around, so she'd be over here surreptitiously writing notes on her phone as she frantically tried to work together a syllabus on the fly.

Not that she even knew to use the word 'syllabus.' Look, she'd been out of high school for almost six years and she'd never went to college; she had no idea how someone with so little educational background was allowed to teach, but she was determined to do a good job, anyway.

Faye had acquiesced to wear a coat and tights today, since it was cold, but otherwise she was here and resplendent in a top that cut low enough that it had been a trick to find enough room for her nametag.

Whatever, she'd just put the sticker right there adjacent to that cleavage. She was just helpfully drawing eyes to her name, okay?

This had been such a good plan. Free vacations, free food, and all she had to do was a little talky-talky in front of kids every couple weeks or whatever? Perfect.

She perched herself on a table, keeping an eye out for someone who looked like he might be named Steve. (She was reasonably sure there might be at least two guys named Steve, so maybe she'd get lucky and have two handsome teaching buddies?)

At this point, Amaya felt like quite the old hat at this, taking the expected place and just watching the proceedings with an amused look on her face. Since her teaching buddy was someone she already knew, she figured she'd have an easy day of it today, which meant perhaps spending a little more time scoping out any particular offerings on sticks that might be available over at the food tables!
