Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whatever aspect of the island made sure the weather was nice on picnic day didn't seem to be able to control the temperature. It wasn't freezing, but it would definitely more comfortable out on the lawn with a coat on. Thankfully, the conditions were just right for a bonfire in the center of the lawn, so people could gather and stay warm once they'd made their introductions.

Once the tables and chairs were set up and everything was properly glittered, all that was needed were people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Happy new year, Dad!!!!!!!!!!!"

And if he thought he was getting out of a hug, like, well. He was super wrong--especially since Nina hadn't seen him for the greater part of two weeks!

"I missed you!!!!!!! Did you and Miss Verity have fun???????"

Hey, he liked hugs!

... As long as they came from a select group of people, anyway, of which Nina was a member. “Missed you too,” he said, hugging her back.

“We did,” he confirmed. “Thanks again for the suggestion.”

"Anytime!!!!!!!!!" she chirped, most of her attention on the hug. She was beaming when she pulled back. "Did you guys just get back???????"

She saw the bag, of course, but Nina wasn't the sort to expect presents.

“This morning,” he said with a nod.

Well, yesterday, technically, but they’d spent last night in Baltimore with Dominic and Nina really didn’t need the details of that.

(Not because it was anything Liam cared to hide, but because it had involved activities that one did not discuss with their teenage daughter.)

“We got you something,” he added. “From the park.”

She wasn’t the type to expect presents, but she was absolutely getting some. So there.

No, no, she was perfectly fine not knowing about that sort of thing about her dad and Miss Verity! She was happy for them! Didn't want to know more!

"What??????" she said, genuinely startled. "Oh my gosh, Dad, it was your anniversary trip!!!!!!!! You didn't need to get me anything!!!!!!!!"

"Yeah, and you're my kid," he pointed out. "I wanted to get you a present."

Like Disney, Lowryland had some 'signature' souvenir items that could be found in many, many varieties. Those items?

Crowns and wands, which Liam was now pulling from the bag to present to Nina.

"Ohmygosh," she said, both touched and delighted. "Dad, Dad, they're perfect!!!!!!!!!!!"

Guess what she was going to wear to her first class on Monday?

All hail Queen Nina of Ninatopia!

"Let me put the crown on," she said eagerly.

Liam beamed at her.

"I'm glad you like them," he said. "Come on, let's see!"

The crown was light enough that she wasn't worried about it ruining her hair (and she wouldn't have cared anyway, since it was a crown from her dad and it was perfectly fantastic) so Nina carefully set it on her head, adjusting it minutely before she took up a pose with her wand.

"I promise to be a benevolent ruler," she said earnestly, beaming. "What do you think???????????"

Liam already had his Global out and was snapping a picture of that pose.

It wasn't going to replace Moogle-Nina as her caller ID anytime soon, but it was pretty damn cute.

"Those might as well have been made specifically for you," he said, still grinning.

"I love them," she said, doing a happy little spin, just because she could.

Then, also because she could, she was going to see if she could tap each of Liam's shoulders gently with the wand.

"I hereby proclaim you a knight of the realm," she declared.

“I solemnly swear to uphold my duties to the best of my ability.”

A beat.

“What are my duties? I’ve never actually been knighted before.”

Roberts’ sarcastic declaration that Da’an had ‘knighted’ him aside, anyway.

Nina opened her mouth, then closed it, changing her mind.

"Still a work in progress!!!!!!!!" Nina decided, twirling her wand and checking the weight of it. "I'll get back to you!!!!!!!!!!"

"I shall eagerly await instructions," Liam said, giving her a wink and then offering a bow, complete with flourish.

She laughed.

"But will you listen???????????"

"Within reason," Liam told her. "For example, if you told me that one of my duties was to buy you an ice cream, then sure. If you tried to claim that I needed to buy you the entire stock of the candy shop... not so much."

A ridiculous example, because he knew Nina would never actually want that much sugar (well, not to eat, anyway. He wouldn't put it past her to ask someone to get it for her just to see if she could).

Nina giggled.

"If I ever ask for a candy shop from you, I'll make sure it's a real emergency," she promised.

But only for asking Liam.

"Though I wouldn't say no to an ice cream sometime soon!!!!!!!!!"

Was he a little curious to see what sort of emergency would necessitate buying out an entire candy shop? Perhaps. But he wasn't going to put that thought out into the world.

"You just say the word," he promised her. "And we'll hit up Chilly Boulder. Or even some place on the mainland."

Nina side-eyed him.

"I'm not going anywhere near the mainland unless we change dimensions to do so," she said, because Nina stalked the news out there and... no.

"Verity's version, most likely," Liam assured her. Because his own was...

Well. Only if Nina was willing to do that magical disguise thing, anyway.

"Oh!" he realized. "In fact, yes, we are absolutely doing that, because you need to experience Gingerbread Pudding."

"Is that a place or a dessert???????" she asked curiously, all for a trip to Miss Verity's world.

"A place," Liam clarified. "It's a bakery, though they specialize in gingerbread. Best you'll ever taste."

That wasn't opinion, that was just pure fact. There was literally nothing that could compare to Madhura-made baked goods.

"I do like gingerbread," she admitted.

It wasn't quite as sweet as a lot of cookies, though she ate those too, in moderation. She also liked molasses cookies for the same reason.

"That settles it," Liam said. "Sometime later this week, maybe? After you've had a chance to get a feel for the new kids."

And given that one of them had already declared intentions to wrest control of Student Council from her by blackmail, Nina was definitely going to want to scope out the new kids.

She grinned up at him. "You know me too well!!!!!!!! That sounds perfect!!!!!!!!!"
