Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whatever aspect of the island made sure the weather was nice on picnic day didn't seem to be able to control the temperature. It wasn't freezing, but it would definitely more comfortable out on the lawn with a coat on. Thankfully, the conditions were just right for a bonfire in the center of the lawn, so people could gather and stay warm once they'd made their introductions.

Once the tables and chairs were set up and everything was properly glittered, all that was needed were people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Current students who had been assigned new rooms and/or roommates had been handwavily informed of the change, but the list had been posted for everyone to see at one of the tables:

Putting them in charge of something seemed like such a good idea at at least one point...

I have never been happier to put a new year on spring picnic threads.

So she was a teacher again, albeit just to get to go on free vacations. And, although she might not admit this, to keep herself busy.

Seivarden had brought a tea flask, to be sure to find some decent tea, and waited to see who would show up.

Lucille had also joined the group of people sharing one class. She had been curious when the possibility had come up, and had decided to try it, on a whim.

Now she was here waiting for a familiar person who where supposed to be her... 'teaching buddy'?

Aphra was still a tooka, but she wasn't going to let that stop her (and her creepy little hands) from putting in an appearance.

"Holy shit," Dante said-- cackled. No, it was definitely a cackle. "I'm in the teacher section, what the hell."

Beat.

"This feels weird."

But he was still gonna chill over here, in his heavy red leather coat - under which he was actually wearing a shabby white shirt, thank god - his white hair hanging over his eyes as he watched everything around him with a kind of perturbed amusement.

Riding the high that was NYE straight into the thrill that went along with the Welcome Picnic meant that Summer was pretty sure she had a pretty big mega-crash of some sorts ahead of her, but, whatever, that was a problem for Future Summer, because it was time for the Welcome Picnic, and she had a new Teaching Buddy to terrify into mostly hiding (she was pretty sure that was what happened with the last one...), and she just really loved Welcome Picnic day, okay? Geez.

Karolina was here, looking excited, with her usual GUIDANCE COUNSELOR Karolina name tag with rainbow stickers on her chest. She was looking around for an Annie - she was pretty sure she knew what she looked like, but she was still kind of hoping for a name tag.

Or that she'd mingled harder at the party on Thursday.

Well, if anything, being assigned someone you already knew to be Teaching Buddy to certainly made finding them at the Welcome Picnic that much easier.

"Lucille," Amaya greeted her with a nod and a grin. "Joining the faculty this semester, are you?"

"Amaya," Lucille replied. "Yes, I am, although I will teach a class I share with several other teachers."

She added:

"Will you be showing movies again this semester?"

Nick missed his flight, which meant he missed the shuttle, which meant he was slightly late in getting to the picnic. But it was okay! He was here!

Kind of wishing the drink options included beer so he could pretend he wasn't questioning this whole thing, but here.

Just as he had suspected, Ignis could say with confidence that taking the newbie shuttle to the island had done nothing to enhance his experience, despite what the Argentums seemed to think, but at least he was here now, at the picnic, where...

...the surreal nature of the situation was beginning to dawn on him and settled in. To be here in a capacity that had nothing to do with Prompto and absolutely without Noctis was...

...well. It was different, to be sure.

But there was nothing to be done about it now, he supposed, except perhaps hoping that whatever they had by way of coffee here at the picnic was at least marginally better than what he had been subjected to at the bus terminal.

A part of Amaya had been wondering if Lucille was going to ask her something like that, and it was the same part of her that was kind of hoping she wouldn't, and her smile went a bit apologetic.

"I decided against it this semester," she admitted. "The interest seemed to be waning a bit, if you know what I mean, and it was mostly just you and Tisarwat showing up most nights anyway..."

And even Amaya could tell that things were going a bit mushy there, and she was firmly of the opinion that she did not need to be present for any of that.

"I'm sure we could always wrangle a few people together every once in a while for one if you're itching for it, though," she added, before getting to the point at hand. "So what exactly is it you'll be teaching? Anything you've got questions about for an old hand at this to answer before you get too deep into the fray?"

Summer was, of course, keeping an eye out to hone in on any unfamiliar faces; it was literally part of her job right now, after all! So once he did arrive, it definitely wasn't long before she found her way over with a bright, eager grin.

"Hi! You wouldn't happen to be Nick, would you? Nick Miller?"

"The class is on Career Development," Lucille said. "And is there anything you think I should know? About dealing with the students?"

"Perhaps I could invite you, or rather Tisarwat and I. Of course, we don't have a TV."

Lucille felt that that Tisarwat was moving in was determined enough to be able to be mentioned to people.

"Are you Ignis Scientia by any chance?"

Seivarden wasn't a teacher buddy, but she had promised Summer to let her spare room to a new teacher.

Who wore gloves. Rather decadent ones. That was hard not to notice.

Well there wasn’t so much scarring at this point. Just a rather large amount of confusion. However Enola was going to take it in stride. In the meantime she was most interested in all the different styles of clothing people were wearing.

So interesting.

Enola stared at the roommate listing with astonishment. A boy roommate?

“Well. This school is very progressive.”

And Miles was there! Holding up a sign that said “Lydia” much like he was a limo driver at an airport. He also had a gift basket on his arm as he intended to be the best big sibling ever.

“And you must be Ignis,” Barry said coming forward with a hand for a handshake. “I’m Barry. I’ll be your teaching buddy and guide to the strange little shots how we call a school. Welcome to Fandom.”

“It doesn’t get less weird,” Barry said giving Dante a friendly pat on the shoulder. “But you would know that by now. Welcome back, dude.”

"I don't know shit about teaching, man," Dante said, grinning. "So I'm thinking that's gonna keep on being weird for a while."

"And that, uhhh..." said Amaya, trying her best to maintain a perfectly normal smile because, bless her, there was no way Lucille could have understood exactly what the context of that statement would have meant for Amaya, or, zards, she certainly hoped she didn't! Because if that's what she was shooting for...

...yikes.

"That would make a movie night a little more difficult," she said, cleared her throat a moment, and honed back in on the teaching bit. "And I can't say there's too much share with you that you probably don't already know. It's the island that's the difficult thing for new teachers, and you've already got a good handle on that. The students are great, though, I can't even say I've really ever had any trouble with any of them!"

Then again, one of her favorite students had been Beaker, so her margins for that were a little...forgiving.
