Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whatever aspect of the island made sure the weather was nice on picnic day didn't seem to be able to control the temperature. It wasn't freezing, but it would definitely more comfortable out on the lawn with a coat on. Thankfully, the conditions were just right for a bonfire in the center of the lawn, so people could gather and stay warm once they'd made their introductions.

Once the tables and chairs were set up and everything was properly glittered, all that was needed were people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Yeah, Nina had kind of expected that.

"I come bearing Ebony for you," she said sweetly, offering him the can. It was still warm! "And yes, I did have a nice trip back!!!!!!!!! Did you enjoy the shuttle?????????"

Ignis did have to hand it to her; she did know how to soothe over a sore spot rather effectively, didn't she? His steady gaze at her informed her that he did appreciate the gesture, as well as the...consideration that went into it.

"I have to admit," he said, "something about it felt a bit...lacking. I found it a bit difficult to see what all the hype was about."

And with that, he had a sip, and fought off the urge to ask if Nina had possibly brought more than one can with her.

She had a couple of cases with her, back in her dorm room. A housewarming gift, once she knew where he was staying! But right now, no, he got one can and would have to suffer with subpar coffee.

"It wasn't the most extravagant iteration of The Bus," she allowed. "But, like, after the murderous inflatables I didn't want to go that route and I needed something I could do when I wasn't going to be around for it........."

So invisibility it had been!

Ah, so it would seem that the Argentum appreciation for truly terrible puns did not entirely translate along adoptive lines.

"Well, I will say," he said, after another lingering sip of perfect, life giving Ebony, "I am glad to have witness your work with my own two eyes this time."

A sip.

"In a manner of speaking, anyway. But the ride was fine. It afforded me the chance to have a nice chat with your Bus Dean."

Puns were fine but they... weren't really Nina's thing.

Nina's giggling cut off abruptly as she looked mildly alarmed, instead.

"What did you talk about????????"

It was her, wasn't it? It was almost definitely her. Ohmygosh, what had they been saying?

Didn't quite perceive that particular ramification of insisting he take the shuttle, now, did she?

"Oh," Ignis said, idly dismissive, "the conversation was terribly boring. I don't think you'd be very interested in any of it, Nina."

Which he figured would only make it all the more interesting to her.

"I'm interested in a lot of things people think I wouldn't be," she said immediately. "I won't know if I'm not interested until I know what you talked about!!!!!!!!!"

That wasn't going to work, was it?

Not even a little. Especially not when Ignis was actually enjoying himself with this one. Rare were the moments when someone had information that Nina Argentum didn't already have for herself, and he planned to revel in it.

Or at least get a good amount of teasing in while he could.

"Well, it wasn't sewers," he offered, "I can tell you that much."

"He probably wouldn't be too surprised at the sewers," she admitted, mulling that over. Bus Dean and her dad were...

Oh. Oh, did Iggy know about Liam?

"But that leaves so many thing things," she said plaintively, giving him big, sad eyes that she didn't mean in the least.

The fact that at least two narratives were questioning whether Ignis knew about Liam was probably a good indicator that Ignis did not, in fact, know about Liam.

It wasn't like Prompto was exactly in the habit of sharing all of his mini, every day exestential crises about what went on his life, after all.

"That is true," Ignis agreed. "I would perhaps even say that there is an almost limitless potential of conversation topics in which we might have engaged..."

"Now you're just teasing me!!!!!!!!!" she protested, laughing. "Ohmygosh, Ignis!!!!!!!! I'll never sleep now!!!!!!!"

Okay, she had enough going on that she wasn't going to be sleeping much anyway. BUT LIKE.

"Do you ever sleep anyway?" Ignis queried archly, with no acknowledgement to whether or not he was in fact teasing.

Where ever did she find the time?

"Of course I do," she said loftily.

Now, did she get enough? That was a much bigger question...

"It's all a matter of scheduling and multi-tasking!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Your day planner," Ignis commented, in a complimentary, impressed sort of tone, "must truly be a sight to behold, Nina."

And he will now accept his Understatement of the Year award with great honors.

He had earned it!

"I had to design my own layout," she admitted. "All the ones available to buy weren't accommodating of everything I've got going on????????? But once I figured out how to maximize a page for my needs, it worked out really well!!!!!!!!!"

But it was a terrifying, terrifying thing.

Should he ever get his hands on it, he was also going to have to decipher her combination of code, shorthand, and various languages that it was written in.

... Her planner was probably not going to be useful for anyone but her in the event of her disappearance.

"Well," said Ignis, "I can't say I'm surprised to hear that you rose to the occasion to make such inadequate options work to your needs."

She sniffed.

"I could have used a computer program but, like, those are way too accessible!!!!!!!!"

And she lived in cheerful, incredible paranoia.

"I feel a more analog approach suits you better, anyway," Ignis observed.

After all, even her weapons involved books...

"I've adapted very well to a more modern age," she said, vaguely insulted.

Even though she couldn't argue with him, really...

"And I had no intention of implying that you haven't," Ignis replied with a quirk of his brow. "Simply that there's no denying that you have a certain aesthetic. One that I myself can appreciate. You think I'm logging all of my recipes in a Notes app?"

Perish the thought!

She shuddered.

"Only if, like, there was a serious emergency," she said, "and even then..........."

None of the apps she'd found had been very useful.

"I trust my memory will be strong enough to hold me through until I might at least find a napkin or other scrap of paper to jot it down."

And some recipes weren't worth keeping, Mr. Mystery Meat Sushi.

"And, like, most times it does," she agreed. "Besides, there's just something more satisfying about writing it down???????"

One did what one could with even the most...unsatisfactory of ingredients!

Ignis nodded in agreement. "There's something more personal in it," he postulated. "More connection with the words through a pen than through the glass of a mobile device."

"And," she said, "it's really fun to shop for pens and notebooks!!!!!!!!!!"

She could do that for aaaages.
