Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whatever aspect of the island made sure the weather was nice on picnic day didn't seem to be able to control the temperature. It wasn't freezing, but it would definitely more comfortable out on the lawn with a coat on. Thankfully, the conditions were just right for a bonfire in the center of the lawn, so people could gather and stay warm once they'd made their introductions.

Once the tables and chairs were set up and everything was properly glittered, all that was needed were people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Faye had acquiesced to wear a coat and tights today, since it was cold, but otherwise she was here and resplendent in a top that cut low enough that it had been a trick to find enough room for her nametag.

Whatever, she'd just put the sticker right there adjacent to that cleavage. She was just helpfully drawing eyes to her name, okay?

This had been such a good plan. Free vacations, free food, and all she had to do was a little talky-talky in front of kids every couple weeks or whatever? Perfect.

She perched herself on a table, keeping an eye out for someone who looked like he might be named Steve. (She was reasonably sure there might be at least two guys named Steve, so maybe she'd get lucky and have two handsome teaching buddies?)

"Faye?" Steve said, carefully not looking at her nametag.

But Steve, if you looked at it, it wouldn't be a question.

"That's me!" Faye told him brightly, because hello there. "Don't tell me I'm so lucky that you're my mysterious new friend, Steve."

Teaching wasn't going to be so bad. So far it meant she was basically swimming in handsome men.

"That's me," Steve said, holding out his hand to shake. "Steve Rogers. I'm
a team building teacher this semester."

God help those students.

"You got a lot of expertise in 'building teams'?" Faye totally put the quotes around it just so it would sound like a euphemism, yes. She shook his hand, anyway, smiling widely. "Pleasure to meet you, Steve."

Here, learn a new fun fact about Steve, Faye! He can do a full-face blush! "I'm a team leader for a group called the Avengers?" he tried.

The blushing just made her want to torment him more, honestly.

"I bet you are." What did that even mean. "This is my first time teaching, believe it or not."

"Well, the students here are a pretty...diverse...group," Steve said, hedging a bit. "I taught about governments last semester and had a student in it who'd kind of accidentally become the leader of her nation at home?"

As one does, when one is a student at Fandom.

"What are you teaching?"

"Career Development?" Faye ventured, honestly not a hundred percent sure on the name of the class. "And wow, governments sound - I mean, that was probably a pretty important class for that girl to take. I bet you're a great teacher."

Flattery, flattery, flattery.

"I don't know about great, but I enjoy it," Steve said, cheeks going pink again. "It's a nice break from my regular job."

"As a team leader? I would've guessed you did something in, like, modeling or bodybuilding," Faye told him, reaching out to touch Steve's bicep like a person with no boundaries.

Steve didn't jump out of his skin because he was a professional, darn it, but he did use his thumb to rub at the ring on his left ring finger. "No, I'm just a soldier," he said with a quick smile.

Look, Steve could be literally at the altar with Tony and Faye would be acting like this, still.

"You don't say," Faye's smile was slower as she inclined her head curiously at him. "I for one feel very safe knowing you're in charge of protecting people, then."

Because that's what soldiers did, right? Sexily protected people with their dreamy biceps, mostly?

That's definitely what the fanfic thought!

"So what do you normally do?" Steve asked. "Since teaching is a new thing for you."

"I work at the gun store," Faye told him easily. "Crash-landed my ship here 'bout a month or so ago - I was looking for Callisto, kinda overshot - and decided to stay. Met a guy in a bar last week who told me all about teaching and I decided to give it a whirl."

John had mostly let her know that there were free vacations involved and that the school board appeared to have incredibly low standards, was the thing.

"Where's Callisto?" Steve asked, frowning thoughtfully. "I don't know that...planet?"

City? Village?

"Moon of Jupiter," Faye offered helpfully. "Where - when - I'm from, it's a black market populated almost entirely by guys."

So, like, if you had any lingering doubts about what kinds of things Faye was into, Steve....

The blush had returned in force so Steve had put it together, yeah.

"Oh. That sounds like a...fun adventure?"

Or it would be without the judge-y face you were giving her, Steven.

Faye was basically immune to judgement!

"Would've been if I'd made it," she decided. "On the other hand, Earth is barely populated when I'm from, so this is really the fun adventure. So much water here. So many friendly people."

She was still hitting on him, yes, but she also totally meant it because people were generally not at all friendly in Faye's time.

"They really are," Steve said earnestly. (Steve said most things earnestly.) "And as your school-assigned Buddy, I'm here for most questions!"

"How much can you bench-press?"

Look, Steve, you couldn't just say 'most questions,' to someone like Faye.

"Um." Steve ran a hand through his hair. "1500 pounds or so?"

"Shit, really?" Okay, Faye was actually impressed, there. Not just oh-wow-you-big-strong-man faux impressed, like she was planning on being, and she actually dropped the act a little out of surprise. "That's - a lot."

"I threw a rickshaw at a bear the other weekend," Steve offered.
