Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whatever aspect of the island made sure the weather was nice on picnic day didn't seem to be able to control the temperature. It wasn't freezing, but it would definitely more comfortable out on the lawn with a coat on. Thankfully, the conditions were just right for a bonfire in the center of the lawn, so people could gather and stay warm once they'd made their introductions.

Once the tables and chairs were set up and everything was properly glittered, all that was needed were people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Kathy grinned down at Nina, inordinately pleased she knew of her. "That's me!" she said. "Hardison heard from Dad that I was gonna be on the island and took a portal to hand me that USB stick." Laughing, she shook her head at her dad's husband's ridiculousness.

(She loved them both dearly, but neither Hardison nor Parker were her stepparents. That was just too weird.)

"What mystery?" she couldn't help but ask.

Nina tucked the USB away into a pocket, patting it protectively, because yeeees, a challenge, and then beamed.

"He's hilarious," she said, fondly, because sure, they didn't see each other much but she talked to Hardison quite a bit. "And, like, well one of the students here got stuck in a video game but, here's where it gets weird," because that really wasn't weird on the island, "inside of the game other people from other places around the world were also kidnapped?????? And I was in my world when I just happened to boot up the same game to play it and Julius, the student, was freed from the game???????"

And if Nina's face went pink at that memory well, like, who could blame her?

"So we need to figure out the dual situations of a) how did it happen and b) was everyone else sent back to their homes or are they still trapped in the game??????? It doesn't seem to be an island thing........"

She'd hit up the dorms before hitting the picnic, partly to drop off her stuff but also partly to have her system start running diagnostics on Julius' phone.

Kathy blinked at her, thoughtfully. "Okay, so someone from Fandom getting sucked into a video game isn't all that shocking. But for that to happen to other people...Huh."

Interesting. Hardison would be fascinated to figure out what could have caused that.

Oooooh, but that blush of hers deepened.

"He's fine!!!!!!!!" Very fine! "He was really confused because, like, it had been a year in game but less than three months here???????? And, right?????? If it was just him, that would make sense," as much as the island did, "but he was really clear that the others stuck in there were from-------all over the world, this world???????"

Which made how he wound up in her world even more curious!

Kathy's eyebrow was just everrrr so slightly creeping upwards at that blush. She remembered blushing like that once. Over certain Nephilim, in fact. (And a healing mage...and a werefox...)

"It does sound like a mystery," she says, trying not to smile. "Have you gotten geographic data from the student yet? Might want to make a map."

"I've gotten some information from him," she said primly, despite the way that blush was going nowhere fast. "A lot of it, he doesn't remember, since it was a year ago for him. So we're going to have to do this the..... hard way."

Nina. Nina, no. Stop blushing.

"Sometimes the hard way is the most satisfying in the end," Kathy said, Very Earnestly. "It takes longer and requires so much more work, but you can't argue with that heady rush when it all pays off."

"I'm so glad Iggy was too busy to pick my classes this semester," she said, with feeling.

Because otherwise she'd have been in Kathy and Dante's class and probably would've spent most of it beet red and hands buried in her face.

Though, yeah, Nina was still a way better like than she'd ever be.

"Probably do," Kathy said with a shrug. "It's been well over a year since I've been on the island. Lots of strange faces these days." She sounded both resigned and wistful.

... And kind of hoping, like, Kathy thought Iggy was the moose. That would be hilarious.

"They do," Kathy agreed, that odd expression on her face fading, but still present if you knew what to look for. "I told Dante once, there was a whole crop of new folks I only knew by the tops of their head. But that was about four years ago, so I'm pretty sure they're gone, too."
