Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whatever aspect of the island made sure the weather was nice on picnic day didn't seem to be able to control the temperature. It wasn't freezing, but it would definitely more comfortable out on the lawn with a coat on. Thankfully, the conditions were just right for a bonfire in the center of the lawn, so people could gather and stay warm once they'd made their introductions.

Once the tables and chairs were set up and everything was properly glittered, all that was needed were people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I have a cat called Issa," Seivarden said. "She's usually friendly, but I know some people are bothered by cats."

She hoped Ignis wasn't. He was giving a good first impression, regardless of the gloves.

"A cat," said Ignis, with perhaps a touch of relief, "should hardly be a problem at all. Even if it was, I can't imagine I'd be in any place to take issue with it, as you're the one who is doing me the favor in this instance. That's rather generous of you. Should I decide to take you up on the offer, I assure you, you'll barely notice I'm there."

Until he discovered how Seivarden subsisted almost entirely on take-out.

That simply would not stand.

"Let me know what you decide," Seivarden said. "As I said, it's no inconvenience. And should you need any information on the island just ask, although I know you have friends here and probably an assigned teaching buddy too."

"Yes." There was a touch of amusement in Ignis's tone, perhaps even the hint of a smirk on his face, if you looked closely enough. "It appears I am truly just along for the ride. Perhaps, though, when these festivities settle down and our teacherly duties for the day have been fulfilled, you could favor me with, if not a tour of this prospective living space, but of some of the places of note around the town as well. Granted, I've been here before on visits, for Prompto's parents weekend and his graduation, but those were rather...focused events."

"Of course," Seivarden said, amused at the amusement. "I'll be heading home after this, so let me know when it suits you. I might pick up something to eat on the way too, if you want something for dinner."

Takeaway, Ignis.

Takeaway was perfectly acceptable on occasion, but it would seem that far too many people felt daily was more than enough cause for occassion.

"I'm surprised," he noted, with a gesture toward the table, "that anyone should be hungry after an offering like this."

This was not at all true. He worked with three bottomless pits. And there was little rest for their chef.

Oh, gods, he didn't even want to think of what Noctis was probably eating at just this moment...He may as well start weeping for the state of the prince's apartment when he returned on Monday now to save a bit of time...

"They don't skimp for these picnic events, do they?"

"They don't. It's just that..."

Seivarden glanced towards the table.

"People eat the food with bare hands. It makes me lose my appetite."

Ignis's head tilted with curiousity at that, considering the offerings with a slightly different perspective now. A lens in which he might not have thought about it before, and he appreciated that. It was always enlightening, to perceive something from an angle that one had previous been blind to, even if it was there in front of their faces the whole time.

"Eating food with bare hands," he repeated, then asked, "Is that considered a taboo where you're from?"

"It's considered... uncivilised."

Seivarden hoped this wasn't going to be a problem, but perhaps it was best to have it mentioned now.

"Hm."

It was a thoughtful hum, and Ignis's arms crossed over his chest, one of his hands curling up as if to rest on his chin, but it stopped half-way, rolling out instead, his fingers brushing against themselves instead, as if he realized that he natural inclination to stroke his chin in thought might potentially fall into a similar realm.

A good deal of what he was thinking, if he was honest, was possibly how he could use this as a way to discourage some of Noctis's own...less than civilized eating habits...

"And where is it that you're from, anyway, Seivarden?"

"The Radch, in a different universe," Seivarden said, not sure what to make of that 'hm'.

"What about you? Where are you from?"

"The planet," Ignis started, "is called Eos. The kingdom is called Lucis. And the city is called Insomnia. Presumeably also in another universe, though I couldn't for the life of me tell you exactly which in relation to this one. There are similarities, though, that makes a world like this one at least feel familiar."

There was a small pause, his eyes drifting upwards.

"I hear the nights here are particularly exquisite."

What with the whole 'not overrun by daemons' thing, and all.

"The nights? What are they like where you're from?"

Because the nights here seemed comparatively normal to Seivarden.

"Covered in bloodthirsty monsters intent on utter destruction," Ignis answered, with all the casualness of someone discussing the weather.

"Thankfully, the city exists underneath a protective dome that keeps it safe from the daemons, but anywhere outside of Insomnia is fair game for the hordes."

After a pause, Seivarden said: "Occasionally you get something similar here, but people usually prefer to fix it."
