Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

With all the rain the island had seen during the week, everyone had been hoping for a sudden turn to nice weather for the welcome picnic. But as the crew from the school started to set up for the picnic, the sky got darker and darker, and by the time everything was ready, it had started to steadily rain. As tempting as it was to move everything inside, there just wasn't anywhere in the school for so many people to gather at once, and since it was still comfortably warm outside, extra measures were taken to ensure that the picnic could go on as scheduled. Tents were set up to cover the information tables, the food, and most of the tables and chairs, and umbrellas had been gathered, ready for use by anyone who wanted more personal protection against the weather. It didn't look like the rain would be letting up any time soon.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Pinkie was very excited to see that her new home had set up a welcome party picnic for the new teachers and students. She was totally going to fit in here perfectly! She couldn't wait to start meeting everypony!

Once more Barney was needed to provide his superior, nay, unmatched mentoring skills to a bright-eyed, new teacher as they embarked on the journey of molding young minds to...yeah, who was he kidding, they totally ran out of real volunteers.

Barney need only find the biggest freak who'd shown up and he knew who Zoe had saddled him with this term. "Holy shit, a talking horse! I loved you guys in Equus!"

Having been a mouse for a short bit of time and having studied the strange deer already present on the island, Jane was quite proud of her ability to take the sight of a pink pony fairly in stride.

In fact, she just couldn't refuse the urge to think herself quite clever with her remark. "My, now that's a horse of different colour."

Momoko was looking over the new teachers, wishing she was still able to take classes. Which was totally weird, but there you go. Then she spotted what seemed like a vision. She rubbed her eyes, and finally gave in and approached, totally excited beyond all belief.

"YOU'RE PINK!" All shades of pink! Pink with Pink accents! PINK PINK PINK!

She'd get to the Pony part later. Probably.

Well, this was definitely something different. Not the rain - Alistair had only just spent three weeks around Lothering, now they knew rain - but the everything else. The food! The people! The signs! ...The food!

He wasn't wriggling like a puppy or anything (he was a big, strong Grey Warden representative), but he was thinking very hard about the moral quandary of whether he should stick around to talk to students and his 'teaching buddy', or run off and eat all the food.

... Or maybe gape some more. Was that a pink pony?

Ah yes, Barney was all-weather ready, suit kept safe from the rain by an automatic golf umbrella with a little hang-down sign emblazoned with the words 'DEAN AWESOME.'

Should anyone he deemed inappropriate attempt to speak with him, the sign had this super nifty feature where he could tap it and another sign fell on top of it that said, 'KEEP WALKING.' Sweet, right?

This place wasn't so bad. It was on an island. Like Manhattan, except much nicer. And there were people to mingle with. People Neal could possibly persuade into doing things. Or not. People to socialize with, at the very least.

He wandered around the picnic, getting a feel for the place.

Reno grinned and leaned back against a table, contenting himself to people-watch, today. Well, to people-watch, and to possibly make a drinking game out of the different things he noticed, with his water bottle that was actually water, for the occasion.

See a confused face, sip. See somebody actually stunned over the administration's choice in teaching staff, sip. Spot a new kid who didn't seem to think there was anything weird about any of this so far, sip. Overhear someone talking about gender-swapping, chug.

It wouldn't get him drunk, no. But it would probably mean that Reno was really going to have to pee, soon.

Bo would laugh herself sick if anyone thought she could be a teacher, but STAFF (as her I.D. badge proclaimed oh so subtly), she could just about handle.

Nor was she going to turn down the free food or the chance to meet the kids and the rest of the STAFF. (Who... didn't seem to be wearing less than subtle I.D. badges. Right. Fashion note: don't be a dork, Bo. I.D. badge could go live in her pocket. It was kind of hard to miss the t-shirt anyway.)

Dick settled in toward the edge of the teacher area. Still visible, still obviously a teacher despite the hair and casual black shirt and pants (it was better than dressing like Deadpool, at least), but not trying to take up too much attention.

Although if people wanted to pay attention to his hair, that was their choice.

Belle had swathed herself in a light cloak for the occasion (though she'd taken the hood down once she'd reached the tents) and was quietly, eagerly looking around as she studied the new faces of both students and her colleagues.

As much as Jane preferred the sunny weather, she was feeling quite pleased at the chance to parade out the new weather-strong parasol she'd gotten herself after those dreadful weeks off of the coast of Japan. Perhaps not entirely necessary with the tents, but it made for a nice accessory as she came out to enjoy the picnic and perhaps meet some of her new students and associates.

Rain didn't bother Shunsui any. For once, his hat and haori were being quite useful. He was glad to make an appearance at the picnic, packing with his usual sake jugs under his robes to make the process a little more bearable.

He figured any hot new teachers that might be joining the faculty would help make things more bearable, too.

Or, really, any hot teachers that had been on the faculty before, too. He wasn't picky.

Zoe was still cursing the weather as she made her way around the lawn, but everyone seemed to be doing all right, so she was starting to accept their damp state. She was blissfully child-free at the moment, so all of her attention was focused on looking around to make sure no one had already run into trouble. Some people were quick, after all.

Sam hadn't been sure why Zoe had laughed when he'd offered to take care of Grace at the picnic, until they'd gotten outside, and he'd ended up with an armful of nearly-five year old leaning back to stick her head out from under the umbrella he was holding, to try to drink the rain. It was a good thing she was cute, that was for sure.

If you guessed one of Fandom High's latest teachers, you're right!

Hercules, lion of Olympus, Prince of Power, and as of recent continuity^* completely void of any actual powers himself, had wandered over to the festivities. He'd worn his classic outfit mostly since he considered it a sort of 'public appearance'.

So, Hercules stood there, smiling, and eying the spread of food.

He was also mentally bemoaning the lack of beer.

So, there he was, in all his glory. Hercules, the hero, the mortal, the soon-to-be teacher.

Hermione was much more comfortable calling herself a teacher than she was a couple months ago. She was watching the crowd, looking in particular for anyone who might seem a little lost. She'd be more than happy to explain things to them.

Stark didn't mind rain so much. It was better than snow, in any case, and he had always found these picnics interesting and was always happy to at least talk to people. Besides, there had been cupcakes on the food table. He had, naturally, stationed himself in their vicinity.

He still found the idea that he was teaching a bit odd, but he looked a little less lost this time around.
