With all the rain the island had seen during the week, everyone had been hoping for a sudden turn to nice weather for the welcome picnic. But as the crew from the school started to set up for the picnic, the sky got darker and darker, and by the time everything was ready, it had started to steadily rain. As tempting as it was to move everything inside, there just wasn't anywhere in the school for so many people to gather at once, and since it was still comfortably warm outside, extra measures were taken to ensure that the picnic could go on as scheduled. Tents were set up to cover the information tables, the food, and most of the tables and chairs, and umbrellas had been gathered, ready for use by anyone who wanted more personal protection against the weather. It didn't look like the rain would be letting up any time soon.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"...if you're another Prestor John, I'm calling shenanigans," Deadpool informed the newbie. Neeeeewbieeeeee.

"Prestor who?" Alistair asked, nonplussed. "I mean, I can't rule out shenanigans, obviously, but my name is Alistair, and I'm not with... whatever organisation uses 'prestor' as a title."

Also, what the hell was this man wearing? Alistair tilted his head a little.

"I dunno, but he liked tryin' to make my brains a fine paste because of his morality and faith and I can't remember because he's not in any books anymore."

"I tried the faith thing," Alistair said, philosophically, "But I'm not really the type, as it turns around. Too much sitting around in temples, too little making brainpaste, I suppose."

"And that is what's wrong with the world today," Deadpool insisted. "And why priests are the butt of unfortunate jokes about alterboys."

A beat.

"Wait, reverse the order of that."

Alistair squinted at him. "...Why are alterboys the butt of jokes about priests?" he said. "Did they make them dress up funny? Is that why you're wearing that getup?"

Oh, Alistair.

Deadpool gave him a pat on the shoulder. "Suuuuure. Suuuuuuure."

"Riiiiight," Alistair said. "I didn't realise this place was populated with members of the Chantry."

He felt vaguely betrayed now. Ugh, the Chantry.

"Heh, Chantry."

Be serious, Deadpool.

"Maybe over at the church that no on goes to except when people die, but not really and it's all sooooo dramatic. I mean, c'mon. I've died at least twice now and if I get another stupid funeral where hot chicks miss me... wait, what was I talking about?"

"Alterboys?" Alistair volunteered. He crossed his arms. "But this is riveting, please, don't let me interrupt your monologue."

Deadpool paused. "Monologue? What medium are we in?"

IF THERE WAS ANOTHER SELF AWARE CHARACTER... SO HELP HIM.

Alistair paused. "I... don't... know..." he said. "Is this a trick question?"

"Yes. yes it is."

"I... see," Alistair said.

And squinted some more.

Yes, Alistair. Let's start a staring contest with the insane vice-principal in the suit.

It was a good idea!

"Newbie."

"Mad suit man."

"Crazy Renaissance Faire reinactor."

Alistair had no idea what that was, but it was on, so he wasn't going to ask questions.

"Rambling procurer of strange fabrics."

Oooo! That was all fancy!

"D&D nerd who lives in his mama's basement."

"Oh, now you're just making up words," Alistair said, just to prove he could be not fancy, sometimes. "And also wrong."

"It's not my fault you don't follow pop culture!"

"What is pop culture?" Alistair asked, sensibly. "Is it something you can eat?"

"Only with your mind," Deadpool replied. "It's all very metaphysical."

"Riiiiight," Alistair said. "Are you sure this isn't the Chantry? Because I know some of the clerics like to go around speaking in riddles because they think it makes them look enlightened, and trust me, it doesn't actually work."

"No, I've been reliably informed I'm just insane," Deadpool said with all the kindness in his heart. "You want weird, round about and way too preachy... talk to the mayor."

A beat.

"He'll be the large guy with the ginger child running around him."
