With all the rain the island had seen during the week, everyone had been hoping for a sudden turn to nice weather for the welcome picnic. But as the crew from the school started to set up for the picnic, the sky got darker and darker, and by the time everything was ready, it had started to steadily rain. As tempting as it was to move everything inside, there just wasn't anywhere in the school for so many people to gather at once, and since it was still comfortably warm outside, extra measures were taken to ensure that the picnic could go on as scheduled. Tents were set up to cover the information tables, the food, and most of the tables and chairs, and umbrellas had been gathered, ready for use by anyone who wanted more personal protection against the weather. It didn't look like the rain would be letting up any time soon.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I don't think I'm drunk, but if I was, I wouldn't be arguing with my hallucinations."

Oh, she so would. She'd just deliberately never been drunk enough to find out.

"I'd rather have cute ones than the kind that could stomp on my head."

"That's called a hangover, not a hallucination."

"So I've heard. I've never actually had one of those." Because the few times she'd gotten drunk enough for it, things hadn't ended well for whoever had walked her home, but Bo had woken up fresh as a daisy. There was a reason she mostly stuck to Coke.

"...really?" That wasn't fair at all.

"What can I say; I've got an awesome constitution." That was one way of putting it.

"Remind me to sign up for one of those when classes start up," Guy replied. Because he was already going to be a horrible Star Sapphire. Why not go all out?

Bo snickered. "Is teaching here that bad?"

"My teaching assistant is a pain in the ass," Guy confirmed. Because, you know, near psychotic rage at Reach tech was always fun.

"Don't you... get to pick those yourself?" She see where it would kind of blow if she was wrong.

"Yeah, but I have a responsibility with this kid." For Ted and all. Not that he had a soft spot for Reyes or anything. "A legacy kind of thing."

"Ahhhhh." Bo cast an eye over the crowd to see if she could spot a certain head of goth-black hair bopping around and hopefully not getting her hands into anybody else's pants unless invited. "Yeah, I think I might just have one of those myself."

"Keep 'em on their toes and they usually have less of a chance to do something dumb." Yes, Jaime. You have a babysitter now.

Deal with it.

Bo snickered. "I don't think I could keep up with this kid even if I put a Lo-Jack on her and stuck a homing chip in her ear."

Guy snorted at that. "See, you just gotta think ahead of 'em. Picture what you woulda done in their place. And then picture would you woulda wanted to do, but didn't have the balls for."

"When I was their age, the worst thing I wanted to do that I didn't have the balls for was to go skinnydipping in the quarry. Something tells me this bunch can get into trouble I couldn't even dream of."

"Really?" Guy grinned at that. "Then what don't you have the balls for now?"

Bo had to grin back at the question. "Not a lot."

It was almost not a lie, if you didn't count various categories of stuff that Bo wasn't counting because they didn't count and furthermore, nyah.

Well, nyah right on back! Missy.

"Fearless," Guy replied, nodding along with that. "Not the worst attribute someone dealin' with kids could have. Just make sure they don't realize you have no clue what the hell they're gonna do next. Kids smell fear."

Like a Sinestro Corps member. Only less stupid yellow.
