Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

With all the rain the island had seen during the week, everyone had been hoping for a sudden turn to nice weather for the welcome picnic. But as the crew from the school started to set up for the picnic, the sky got darker and darker, and by the time everything was ready, it had started to steadily rain. As tempting as it was to move everything inside, there just wasn't anywhere in the school for so many people to gather at once, and since it was still comfortably warm outside, extra measures were taken to ensure that the picnic could go on as scheduled. Tents were set up to cover the information tables, the food, and most of the tables and chairs, and umbrellas had been gathered, ready for use by anyone who wanted more personal protection against the weather. It didn't look like the rain would be letting up any time soon.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Well, he definitely got the "bright-eyed" bit right.

"Oh thank you," said Pinkie. "But it's pronounced 'Equestria'. Hi! I'm Pinkie!"

Pinkie was certainly pink enough to live up to her name. "Of course you are! It's so refreshing to hear you horses go with literal naming; here it gets all confusing when you try and call out to the gingers and they don't even turn around!" He flashed a smile. "But where are my manners, I'm Barney Stinson, Dean of Awesome Students, and your personal Teaching Buddy this term."

What did he expect, that she'd be blue?

"Pleased to meetcha!" Pinkie offered one hoof for a shake. "How do you tell which students are the 'awesome' students? Everypony here already seems so wonderful!"

Oh god, they were going to shake hooves! Someone get this on film!

Barney hesitated only a half second before shaking her hoof. "Ah, now that, my apprentice, is the true art of teaching. Discriminating the awesome from the 'eh, bearable' to the 'oh god, someone save me from this loser.' It's a constant struggle."

Ah, thought Pinkie. This was one of those ponies. She wondered if he had, like, a silver spoon on his flank.

Yes, Barney, the pony is imagining your naked "flank".

"Oh, I'm sure I won't have any 'losers' in my class. Well, they might lose sometimes at pin-the-tail-on-the-pony, but then they can just try again later!"

Hold up, this was some serious imagery she was describing here.

"You're going to play pin-the-tail-on-the-pony in your class? Now this I have got to see."

Well, cutie marks could tell you so much about a pony. And here Barney was, keeping his all covered up. Maybe he'd never gotten one. Wouldn't that be sad!

"I'm gonna have a whole class on party games," Pinkie confirmed. "And one on food and one on music and one on themes and one on invitations and one for decorations! When we're done they'll be ready to party all night long!"

Barney's eyes, oh how they grew wider. Somehow. She wasn't just a pink, talking pony. She was an insane, pink, talking pony. Yeah, he totally loved it.

"Ooh, that sounds like fun!" It was sometimes hard to tell when he was joking because his excitement was totally real. "And one on drink, stressing the importance of good barley and hops, I hope?"

Oh, he hadn't even seen her hit insane yet. Her hair was still curly, for one thing.

"Well, I was going to talk about punch in the food class. Nothing gives a party a good boost like the right punch."

This possibly involved hot sauce.

"Gasp! Pinkie, a girl like you should be fully aware that food is completely secondary to the drink at a good party!" Barney stated this like it was a known and irrefutable fact. "How else do you get the right people drunk?"

"Like a glass of water?" Yeah, he lost her on that one. In her world, the intoxicant of choice was much more likely to be rainbow sprinkles. "You really haven't been going to the right parties, Barney."

He blinked. "I haven't been going to the right parties?! Please, you're talking about water here! Tell me, Pinkie, what makes a good party, drop it down to your basics for me here. And if you say love and sunshine I will drop you in a heartbeat and write up your class on my blog as being filled with lies and propaganda!"

Ever see a pony puff up with self-importance? Well. You'd see one, now. Pinkie was the party pony in Equestria. Even Princess Celestia would say so.

"Friends," she said, simply and definitively. Then, after a small pause: "And cake."

Hmm. Barney had to admit the pink one had attitude.

And could probably kick his ass with that flank of hers.

One last test at rapid fire - "Chocolate or vanilla?"

"Both!"

Please, Pinkie limit herself on baked goods? Right, like that would ever happen.

"Approved. So Pinkie, tell me about yourself, do you have sisters?" No, it wasn't a question about herself, really, but he was intrigued by the horse as teacher situation.

"One. ~~Fanon has decided that~~ She's a classical cellist." Don't ask how that worked. "But I have five best friends who are practically just like my sisters! Do you have sisters?"

"An older brother, just like me." Or maybe the opposite of him in ways. "Five best friends? These must be some sad girls for you to leave 'em behind in Equestria." Look who listened and maybe could learn. Maybe.

We're not holding our breath though.

"I know!" Pinkie had clearly thought about this. "But Princess Celestia asked us all specifically if we wanted to go teach our special talents out in the world, and you just can't say no to Princess Celestia."

She'd ruled Equestria for over a thousand years and was the one who made the sun rise and fall. I mean, come on.

"Because she'll get out the whip?" Barney was betting there was something kinky going on there.

"Oh no, nothing like that! Don't be silly!" Pinkie shook her head. Barney really was a strange pony, wasn't he? "She's the one who makes the sun rise and without her, we'd be trapped in eternal night." The 'duh' wasn't explicitly stated, but it was definitely implied. "The least we can do is help her out when she asks us to."

"Huh. I bet she has some serious power to get all that done. So basically she says, Pinkie, go teach the emo kids at Fandom how to blow up a party or I'm sticking you in eternal darkness. I bet she has a really nice flank, huh?"

"Her cutie mark's really big. But that's probably 'cause she's so tall. She's a unicorn and a pegasus!"
