With all the rain the island had seen during the week, everyone had been hoping for a sudden turn to nice weather for the welcome picnic. But as the crew from the school started to set up for the picnic, the sky got darker and darker, and by the time everything was ready, it had started to steadily rain. As tempting as it was to move everything inside, there just wasn't anywhere in the school for so many people to gather at once, and since it was still comfortably warm outside, extra measures were taken to ensure that the picnic could go on as scheduled. Tents were set up to cover the information tables, the food, and most of the tables and chairs, and umbrellas had been gathered, ready for use by anyone who wanted more personal protection against the weather. It didn't look like the rain would be letting up any time soon.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I am!" said Pinkie. "Hi! I'm Pinkie Pie! What's your name?"

"Momoko! Akatsutsumi Momoko! Ah! You're so PRETTY!" Momoko beamed. SO MUCH PINK!! It couldn't help but make Momoko happy! "It's nice to meet you Ms Pie! Are you a new teacher or just visiting?"

Please be a teacher please be a teacher please be a teacher!

"I am a teacher! You must be really smart!" What with having noticed that Pinkie was a) pink and b) in the teachers' area. "I'm going to teach how to throw the best parties!"

"Ah ah! That sounds like an awesome class! And I can't be in it! I graduated already!" Momoko gave a huge sigh of frustration. "Are you going to have lots of parties as examples and tests and stuff? I can totally come then, right?"

It was wrong how much she wanted to hug Ms Pie, right? Just because she was SO CUTE AND AWESOME AND PINK!

"Oh, I throw parties all the time! It's what I'm best at, and I'm the best there is at it back home in Equestria. You can totally come to those parties!"

"AWESOME!" Momoko's excitement returned. Almost like it was being fed. Hmm.

"Equestria? Is that where you're from? Ah! Does that mean there are MORE pink ponies or are you the only one? I've never met a talking pony before. Ah, you are a pony, right? Or are you just pony-like? I have a friend who's totally like a lion-person? Only he's just a person, really. Oh! Or do you just look like a pony? I was a hummingbird once! For a whole week! And my other friend was a cat and my roommate was a crab! I had to buy him a tank because he lived in salt water."

Pinkie had actually never met anyone who talked as quickly and as excitedly as she did. It was kind of fascinating.

"That's right, I'm an earth pony! That means I don't have wings or a horn, so I can't fly or do magic ~~except when it's cartoon physics~~, but that's okay because every pony in Ponyville -- in all of Equestria itself -- has their own super-special-duper fantastic talent all of their very own! Mine is parties. And some of the other ponies are pink. Some of them are blue or white or brown or red or green or purple or chartreuse or gray or yellow. What was it like being a hummingbird? Were you all --" Pinkie balanced on her hind legs to flap her front legs rapidly, and even managed to lift off the ground a few inches ~~see what I mean about those cartoon physics?~~. "My friend has a cat, but I don't think she's ever been a cat. But she got abducted by dogs once."

It was like a secret language Momoko never knew anyone else knew.

"Earth pony? Wow! I didn't realize there were different kinds, but that totally makes sense! And, you're totally your own self so don't worry about magic or flying to show that you're special! Although flying is one of my favourite things to do! Even when I'm not a hummingbird, although I flew really fast and kept trying to drink red things. Parties is a talent? Do you mean throwing parties or going to them? I think baking would be a nice talent to have, which totally goes with parties because cake is the best thing you can have at a party besides friends. I don't think any of my friends have ever been kidnapped by dogs. There were some mean guard dogs once when my friend was kidnapped but they didn't do it."

Pinkie circled around Momoko once. "You can fly? But you don't have any wings!" That just made her extra special awesome, in Pinkie's books. "I can fly if I use a hot air balloon -- that what I do when I'm doing the announcements for the Running of the Leaves or when we went to Cloudsdale to cheer my friend Rainbow Dash on in the Young Fliers Competition. She totally won and we were all WOO HOO! YOU'RE THE BEST! because she was, I mean, who else could pull of a sonic rainboom and rescue four falling ponies at once? And I throw the best parties in all of Ponyville. That's why I'm teaching how to do it. And I love baking! I have a cupcake song I used to teach some of the little ponies how to bake, it goes like this: cupcakes, so sweet and tasty, cupcakes, don't be too hasty, cupcakes, cupcakes, cupcakes, cupcakes!"

And she finished off with a shower of sparkly confetti. Don't ask where she was keeping that.

"So CUTE!" Momoko gave a small spin in the sparkly confetti, smiling. "I don't have wings! I have to transform and then my shoes let me fly! But I've been in a hot air balloon once! It was nice but totally slow. How can you announce something about running if you're in a balloon? Especially with someone named 'Dash' in the race. Which is totally an awesome name, by the way. Especially since she's a superhero and saving other ponies! I never even knew there were pony heroes! AH! You should totally have a hero-themed party! Everyone can come dressed as their favourite hero!"

"Oh that's a great idea! I'd dress up as Twilight Sparkle! Or Rainbow Dash! Or Applejack or Rarity or Fluttershy! They're my best friends. We all worked together to stop Nightmare Moon from bringing eternal darkness to Equestria, so I guess we're all sort of heroes! But I could never pick my favorite. Who would you dress up as? Would you wear a cape? There was a unicorn pony who wore a cape and said she was a hero, but she was toooootally just bragging."

Momoko took a moment to think. "Hmm. I'd totally wear a cape if I was dressed up as Miracle Ace. He's totally awesome, but not many people here know who he is and that's always depressing at a party, when people ask who you are. It's fun to have them guess, but they can't if they don't know him. For Hallowe'en I was a superspy from this totally awesome movie? And people kept asking if I was a ninja. I totally didn't look like a ninja. I could always dress up like Bitterwoman! It would totally make my boyfriend laugh." Or drool.

Yeah, Pinkie had no idea who that was.

"I like ninjas! They're all GRRRRRRR!" Pinkie rose up on her hind legs and held her front ones dramatically over her head.

It was a terrible impression of a ninja.
