Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

As was usually the case with these things, good weather was once more blessing the gathering of Fandom folk new and old. There was a bonfire, but it was mostly for decoration. And for s'mores, the makings of which were available at one of the nearby tables.

There was plenty of food, and there were tables and chairs set up all across the lawn (with light dustings of glitter where you least suspected it, naturally), and everything was ready for another welcome picnic!

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

All in the last twenty-four hours, Sakaki had been in an airplane for the first time, left her home country for the first time, been mauled by cats and subsequently bandaged up as a result (not for the first time, nor the last!), hung out with an owl for the first time, and rode in a bus that looked like a bunny for the first time!

That was a lot! And now there was some sort of picnic, but Sakaki was honestly ready to figure out her room situation and snuggle up with some of her softest plushies and have a nice nap.

But she dutifully found her name tag, smoothed it over her chest, and looked around, especially toward the food tables as her bandaged hand went over the rumble of her stomach.

Maybe some food first...

Miles was not here to scar anyone. Nope. In fact he had a gift basket with a few gift cards to the Perk, J’GoB and Pizza Planet in there as well as a sweatshirt with the gremlin mascot logo on it.

On top of that he was holding up a sign that said “Malia Tate” on it like he was a limo driver at the airport.

Clare was clutching her backpack a bit like a security blanket and vibrated from excitement, nerves, and all the sugar she'd stress eaten on the bus ride in.

When Sakaki got around to looking at the room assignments, she just had to stop and stare.

Her roommate was the boy with the owl.

Did that....did that mean...Hedwig...

Would an owl be her roommate, too??

Maybe they had a special place for owls to stay, but she sincerely, truly, deeply hoped not.

Edward was responsible when he liked, and irresponsible when he preferred that angle; what he was right now was smiling. Perhaps a bit smug.

And not a bit surprised about the paper with the class schedule someone had pressed into his hands on the way here.

Ender hadn't missed Fandom. Not really. He didn't have it in him, that nostalgic touch, especially as his and Ben and Valentine's travels took them further away from Earth, from their own past.

And yet: here he was again. Standing in the teacher area, listening to his daughter's observations about the people at the picnic.

"Remember," Ender said quietly, "Don't make snap judgments."

Awww yis. Summer had been looking forward to this pretty much all week! She was there, she was eager to pick out new faces and probably some returning ones, and she was most of all looking for new faces that might look like a Din Djarin (like, the name sounded vaguely familiar for some reason, though she wasn't sure why?), because, oh boy, did whoever that poor sap was have it coming because they were the lucky one to be assigned to her as a school-assigned friend.

And she took school-assigned friendship very seriously.

So long as she wasn't being thoroughly distracted by everything else that came along with the welcome picnic, anyway!

Jessica was there. Hungover and completely unsure how she ended up teaching a class.

Granted it was a class on drinking, so at least the Moose had set a low bar for her. Bonus? No kids.

Granted the only thing she could concentrate on right now was the pounding headache in her brain and the spiked coffee in her hand.

It had been years...no, decades!...since Sidon had seen this place, and even though it had not been nearly as long on this side of things, he was incredibly pleased to discover that not much had changed at all.

Well, everything did seem a bit...smaller than he remembered, but gaining nearly two feet in height to your already towering physique could sort of alter your perspective a little bit!

And Sidon was enjoying that view from the teacher's area this time around!

"Fantastic!"

And, yes, expression of general approval with the child-like excitement of the whole thing would frequently be bursting out of him as he grinned toothily over the picnic and almost couldn't think of where to even start when it came to hunting down his dear old friends and making some brand new ones!

"Spectacular!"

Prompto still couldn't believe they'd actually accepted his proposal for a class! Not so much because he didn't think it was a good class, or anything like that. In fact, he figured it was actually going to be more helpful than some of the classes he'd taken here. It was just the fact that this really did seem to prove that they'd let just about anyone teach here.

He just hoped he could do a good job.

And, even with that doubt in him, he couldn't help but have an crooked, eager grin on his face, arms folded in front of him as he enjoyed the view from the teacher corral and just marveled that he was a teacher now, too.

Even if it was probably just for the summer.

Man! So cool! It was almost enough to make him forget about all of his frustration with his phone going missing and then getting royally messed up by whoever that jerk who stole it was!

It was rather...convenient, wasn't it, that new recruits from the Academy always seemed to flow into the Seireitei right when Fandom High was on break in between semesters? Serendipitous, really! Shunsui was hardly one to question it, but it was good to be breezing back to the island after two long weeks of actually having to work with his Division and the bright-eyed, sword-weilding new recruits, wondering if he'd missed anything particularly interesting in those two weeks he was gone and when he should see about picking up Nanao-chan VII from Movie Class-chan now that he was back and could thank her for doing what was doubtless a fine job watching the plant for him in his absense, and keeping an eye out for any beautiful new faces around the picnic that he should most certainly see about getting to know better...

Ignis, of course, was making an appearance for this; he couldn't have gotten out of it even if he'd wanted to, now that Prompto was teaching for the summer as well, but he couldn't help being at least a little bit...distracted, with regards to the matter of Prompto's phone having been usurped and messed with my some strange entity. They were running all sorts of scans to see exactly how this person had managed to scramble all the data and information on it before returning it in a mysterious fashion, rendering it practically unusable, but he was a little anxious to see what the results (if any) might be.

But he was trying to be focused and present, at least for the duration of the event.

Stark was reasonably responsible, for the most part. He was there because this was where he was expected and he needed to look for Prompto.

And, of course, he was there because it was a picnic and he still didn't turn down free food. Why would he do that?

Tony was supposed to be on the look out for a... Sam the Eagle? Which was hopefully a nickname, but knowing this place, might be an actual eagle.

He was prepared for either option!

Mostly by having a large coffee and a donut from the food table.

Of course Amaya was there, accounted for, and eyeing what sort of offerings on the picnic tables involved the words meat and stick in conjunction with each other.

And also keeping an eye out for Yang, because she definitely remembered the girl, but she was trying her best to not think about the fact that she'd apparently been here long enough that her former students were becoming her teaching buddies, ooof, that'll put an ache in your back that hadn't been there before, now, wouldn't it??

Rosa was...there. Mostly because she had to be. But also because she did look forward to seeing the look on some newbies' faces when they first got a full scope of the place.

Look, if she had to be here anyway, she might as well get some entertainment out of it, right?

Guess who had a helmet and no clue he was supposed to be teaching anything. This guy.

He'd honestly only showed up because the kid had ambled over this way for the free food (the amount of deviled eggs Grogu had put away was horrifying) and had sort of just gravitated over toward where the other adults were standing.

Because his life was always accidentally becoming important to the plot.

A picnic was very wholesome. Sam approved. And the foods appeared normal and that borking chef was nowhere to be found.

Perhaps this summer of instructing the youth of America would go better than he feared. Nothing here seemed particularly weird. There was hope that this was, indeed, a nice normal island with a nice, normal summer camp.
