Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

As was usually the case with these things, good weather was once more blessing the gathering of Fandom folk new and old. There was a bonfire, but it was mostly for decoration. And for s'mores, the makings of which were available at one of the nearby tables.

There was plenty of food, and there were tables and chairs set up all across the lawn (with light dustings of glitter where you least suspected it, naturally), and everything was ready for another welcome picnic!

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

“Not sure how long it’s been here, but it’s been about two years for me,” Yang said, offering Amaya her hand to shake. “It’s been a lot.”

"Eh," Amaya shrugged a little as she took that hand for a good, solid shake, "it all sort of blurs together, after a while."

Which was a statement she didn't much care for, but it was true.

"Either way," she added, because now that she'd had a hand in things, so to speak, it was a little harder not to notice a bit of mechanics that had caught her eye almost immediately, but people tended to prefer when you didn't jump right into their particular enhancements, and she nodded at Yang's shiny accessory there, "that's a bit new, isn't it? Or am I misremembering?"

She'd like to think she'd remember an arm like that!

"Pretty new, fresh out of whatever lab it was created in," It was Amaya, Yang didn't take any offense. She knew how her teacher (teaching BUDDY?) loved weapons.

She gave the mental command for the arm to release, and pulled it free of her jacket to offer to Amaya. "She's literally six months old, and one-of-a-kind, so be careful."

And that was how to make an instant win with Amaya. Just pop off your prosthetic weapon arm and hand it on over for her to inspect! She really was that easy to please.

And it didn't take her long to let out an impressed whistle. "And she's a beauty, too," she noted. "I'm pretty sure half of this build is stuff I'm not even close to understanding, but I sure wouldn't mind trying my hand," pun, unfortunately, very intended, "at something like this myself. What kind of materials you got in there?"

And, since there wasn't much more Amaya could glean from it without starting to pick at it, which seemed a bit rude to do with someone's arm, she handed it back. Plus, it was interesting just to see it in action.

Zounds, but she loved all the newfangled technology this place could introduce her to!

"Oh, I didn't make her," Yang said, shaking her head. "It's experimental tech out of Atlas, the big military-industrial country. I earned it for 'valor above and beyond reasonable expectations in wartime.'"

If that last part sounded a little sarcastic, well, Yang still thought General Ironwood was full of shit. And an asshole.

"Well," said Amaya, who noted the sarcasm but also couldn't help but be a bit impressed by anyone willing to make sacrifices for reasons both valorous and bold, "I'd say if it was to balance the scales a bit for what you lost," with no small nod toward the arm, "than it was very well earned, Yang."

And if that last part sounded a little serious, well...Amaya took sacrifices like that mighty seriously.
