Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

As was usually the case with these things, good weather was once more blessing the gathering of Fandom folk new and old. There was a bonfire, but it was mostly for decoration. And for s'mores, the makings of which were available at one of the nearby tables.

There was plenty of food, and there were tables and chairs set up all across the lawn (with light dustings of glitter where you least suspected it, naturally), and everything was ready for another welcome picnic!

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Miguel squinted at Sidon and immediately downed more of his coffee, wondering if he should've brought extra. Fortunately, he'd remembered the enthusiasm and gotten an early start on the caffeine.

"Sidon?" He looked up (and up) at him, then sighed and got a chair to stand on so neither of them would have to crane their necks as badly. "Hi. Don't know if you remember me. Miguel O'Hara."

"Ah, yes!" Sidon didn't particular remember Miguel well, no, if he was completely honest; he didn't think they interacted very much during his time as a student, but he certainly recognized the man himself, even if they may not exactly have been bosom buddies! And so his smile was bright (and toothy!) as he gave a pump of his fist in greeting. "Miguel! Of course! Wonderful to see you! Is this not an excellent day for a picnic? It does my spirit good to be back on these fair lands once again! How have you been? Fantastic, I should hope?"

"Not bad," Miguel agreed. "I'm your teaching buddy, if you need one. At least you already know how weird this place can get, so I don't have to go through all that. What made you decide to come back to teach?"

"Oh, well," said Sidon, with a bit of a put-upon sigh that was clearly not too insistent on being put upon his broad shoulders for too long, as he brushed it away again with another smile, "I rather grew to miss the place after a while! Things can get rather monotinous, waiting out a potential apocolypse, and there's only so many duties a prince can do before the tedium of the whole thing starts to wear one down a bit. So I thought to myself, Sidon! You know what has never failed to provide you with all the excitement and adventure you crave, but also with incredible people full of life and vigor that sends your heart lifting with the thrill of their company and the vast breadth of their fascinating experiences? Why, Fandom High, of course! It's been more than thirty years, why not pop in and see what's going on, perhaps dabble your claws a little in the new experiences of teaching the bright-eyed and eager! That's the thing, I'm afraid, with being the most well-traveled Zora in all of Hyrule's storied history! After a while, even the grand scope of Zora's vast Domain can start to feel quite small!"

Which was, of course, a helluva way to just say he was bored.

Yeah, meanwhile Miguel was trying his best not to zone out halfway through that. One thing did stick out, though.

"It's only been a few years here, not thirty," he mentioned in case Sidon didn't know that yet. "If you were friends with someone, they might still be here."

"Yes," Sidon agreed with a bit of a laugh, "I did rather notice that! It seemed a bit odd, that while time has passed for me, everyone seems to have remained relatively the same. It's very common, for a Zora to not change much in what most people consider a long amount of time, but I know it doesn't work that way with humans! That'll take some adjustment, I should think, but I don't suppose it's the strangest thing to happen!"

It did, however, move his canon along nicely.

"Yeah?" Miguel asked. "What stranger has gone on?"

...oops. He was going to get another book-long reply, wasn't he? Well, at least it should be interesting.

Actually...

"Now there's a question I'd expect any well-seasoned veteran of this fair isle to be able to answer well enough for himself!" Sidon remarked with a jovial laugh and a pump of his fist, before his arms opened up expressively. "I should say I wouldn't even know where to begin on something like that; all we'd need to do is surely wait a few weeks, and we'll have lived through yet another example! I daresay, though, I do worry a bit for the fact that I am looking forward to my first bewildering bout of Fandom Weirdness in a while!"

"Oh, I thought you meant strange back home," Miguel said. "We just had strange before graduation, so it'll probably be a while till the next big strange. Nobody's turned into anything odd in a while, though, so we might be up for one of those."

Yeah, no, nothing exciting or strange was happening in Hyrule any time soon. Just sitting around, hoping the Calamity didn't break past the spell and destroy the whole world, that's all!

Well, at least until a tiny Guardian transports him back into the past to fight beside his dead sister, anyway...like you do!

There was all kinds of timeline screwing nonsense going on up in here lately!

"Oh, I do hope whatever it is is something exciting!" Sidon gushed. "I've missed that old Fandom something-new-around-every-turn thrill!"

"Underwater Basket Weaving!" Sidon announced proudly. "And Other Aquatic Arts!"

Yes, he was completely serious.

And very clearly excited.

"And what about yourself? What fantastic class will you be adding to this summer's extensive and educational roster?"

It was good that Sidon asked that; it saved Miguel simply standing there with his mouth open at Sidon's own class.

"Science," he answered. "Trying to get some of my home's inventions to catch on here."
