Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

As was usually the case with these things, good weather was once more blessing the gathering of Fandom folk new and old. There was a bonfire, but it was mostly for decoration. And for s'mores, the makings of which were available at one of the nearby tables.

There was plenty of food, and there were tables and chairs set up all across the lawn (with light dustings of glitter where you least suspected it, naturally), and everything was ready for another welcome picnic!

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Fantastic," she said flatly and then held out a bottle of bourbon. "Someone just gave me this. Too nice for my taste. You want it?"

"Sure," he said, reaching for it. "Who's handing out bottles at a picnic?"

"My teaching buddy, Lecter," she said nodding her head at the well dressed man. "And I got a steak sandwich too. And one with kale."

She made a face at the word kale.

As someone who eschewed vegetables as a general rule, Nick was appropriately horrified. "Someone gave you kale? That man is sending you a message."

"Oh? What kind of message is that?" Jessica asked, raising an eyebrow.

"He's saying 'keep an eye on me, I put kale on food.'"

Nick had never even had kale. There was no reason for this bias.

He had no complaints about the booze at least.

"That's quite a message," Jessica said nodding solemnly and trying not to smile. "Very profound. He does have good taste in bourbon. Does that send another message?"

"That he's trying but doesn't know you very well," Nick decided. "Luckily you have friends."

Friends.

Jessica hadn’t thought about that really. Friends were for other people. She had drinking buddies.

Then again maybe this place was different for her.

“Good point. Don’t drink it alone,” she advised. “Make sure you share it with someone. Who also doesn’t like kale.”
