Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

As was usually the case with these things, good weather was once more blessing the gathering of Fandom folk new and old. There was a bonfire, but it was mostly for decoration. And for s'mores, the makings of which were available at one of the nearby tables.

There was plenty of food, and there were tables and chairs set up all across the lawn (with light dustings of glitter where you least suspected it, naturally), and everything was ready for another welcome picnic!

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Even Rosa couldn't hold back her grin as Tightpants went and saved her the trouble of going to find him to give him a bunch of crap about the luck of the draw on that one.

"I noticed," she said, and she had been watching that interaction go down with sheer delightful shaudenfruede. "Lucky you."

Miguel rolled his eyes. "Hey, he's not bad. Nice guy. Just...really...a lot." That summed it up, didn't it? "Did you get a buddy too?"

Rosa looked skeptical at this claim, as if the idea of someone being a nice guy was enough to make them suspect, but she snorted, because, yeah, a lot covered it pretty succinctly.

And also, that question.

"No," Rosa said, shaking her head. "I think they know better than to do that to some poor, unsuspecting newbie teacher."

And yet they didn't know better than to randomly sign her up for a supposed Anger Management class.

...'randomly.'

Yeah, Miguel would laugh himself sick when he found that out.

"Probably for the best," he agreed, grinning. "They'd end up with whole generations of teachers wielding axes."

At least that reaction might spare him from being accused of having signed her up for it, which was definitely a thought that had crossed her mind.

"That's the Best Case Scenario," Rosa realized, because, damn, Tightpants, way to make her actually wish she had a teaching buddy to influence into axe weilding, but then again, wasn't that also what her regular students were for? "Worst Case is they wind up with a whole generation of teachers crying.

"Worst Case for the school," she corrected, after a beat. "That's also Best Case for me, too."

She was a simple woman, really.

"Given the kind of people that show up here, that could be nearly impossible, or an easy sell. Pretty sure even you couldn't make shark boy cry, but one of the ones that doesn't know the weird and was all sheltered...?" He shrugged.

Then belatedly realized she might take that as a challenge. He thought about warning her off, but that would probably only make her want to do it more. Anyway, Sidon was a (very) big boy. He could handle it.

It was almost like he knew her, or something, as Rosa's eyes innocently wandered back to Miguel after not at all considering the big chunk of muscly red shark boy and debating on whether or not making Sidon cry was worth the experience of actually having to interact with Sidon.

"Yeahhhh," she allowed, almost reluctantly. "And then you'd have to deal with...you know...people crying."

Which was gross and obnoxious.

Miguel snorted. "Shock no. I'd hide behind you." He wasn't stupid.

Rosa scoffed faintly. "What kind of superhero hides behind his girlfriend?"

"The sensible kind that doesn't deal with crying people," Miguel shot back. "I never know what to do with them."

"Oh, what?" asked Rosa. "Like I do?"

Besides looking at them weird and calling them wusses, anyway.

"New plan," she offered, cocking her head toward the picnic in general. "If I make any newbies cry," or oldbies, for that matter, "we both go and just hide behind Kitty."

She seemed like she'd be good at that sort of thing, right?

"Or just leave 'em there to wallow in their own tears."

Actually, that one sounded pretty good.

"The latter," Miguel decided. "Kitty would probably laugh at us."
