Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I
As was usually the case with these things, good weather was once more blessing the gathering of Fandom folk new and old. There was a bonfire, but it was mostly for decoration. And for s'mores, the makings of which were available at one of the nearby tables.
There was plenty of food, and there were tables and chairs set up all across the lawn (with light dustings of glitter where you least suspected it, naturally), and everything was ready for another welcome picnic!
[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Quite possibly well before that, depending on how social the island's cats were feeling.
"Oh." Sakaki took the package, looking down at it in her hands for a moment before looking back at Lana. "Thank you. I'm from Japan..."
She had to remind herself that conversations worked best when they went two ways, and she knew this was a boarding school where people came from all over the place, so it was a good place to start.
"Where are you from?"
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Summer 2021]
"That's probably a good place to start - did you know the people here are from all sorts of different worlds?"
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Summer 2021]
So, yeah, no, she hadn't gotten there quite yet, and Sakaki frowned, wondering if there was just an issue with the translation. She thought she was doing well so far, but now she wasn't quite sure.

Amazing how easy having Sidon around again made it for the newbies, didn't it? Although one could still easily assume he was just someone in a very large and honestly kind of terrifying costume.
But she tried not to focus on that and instead turned again to look at Lana as if that could help her follow better what she was saying.
"You mean....like outer space?"
She had to be mistranslating all of this, and was going to be studying her phrasebooks so much more this weekend.

"May you...?" she asked, not quite sure what Lana was getting at.
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Summer 2021]
"Here." Lana held out her hand for Sakaki's. "Let me see that? I may be able to help."
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Summer 2021]
Sakaki made a small, confused, slightly hesitant sound at this, but she still relented and let Lana take her hand, because she tended to put her trust into these sorts of things and it wasn't like she expected Lana to bite it like the cats had.
Although, now that her hand was there, she wondered if maybe she should have been more worried about that possibility.
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Summer 2021]
"There you go." She nodded. "Would you like me to heal your face, too? And I'd suggest staying away from nexu kits," she teased, because that was rather what those wounds looked like.
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Summer 2021]
"You....you healed it!"
It was...it was like magic! Sakaki lifted her eyes back to Lana now, clearly rendered speechless with a sort of nervous awe.
Just wait until she found out her roommate was actually a wizard, too!

And...and in a lot of the stories, wasn't there a sort of price to pay for magic? Granted, Sakaki could never bear to listen to any story that got too scary for too long, but that was definitely a recurring theme, so she shook her head.
"N-no," she said. "It's okay. It...it doesn't hurt much. But...thank you. That must be a...a very useful skill to have."
Said the girl who would be covered in bandages like this on the regular.

Just a little bit ago, she could hardly believe that she got to hang out with an owl. Other worlds and people being from them was quite a leap, but there was also a good chance that Chiyo-chan's father was a mysterious, mystical talking cat, so...
...it wasn't entirely impossible, she supposed.
