Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

As was usually the case with these things, good weather was once more blessing the gathering of Fandom folk new and old. There was a bonfire, but it was mostly for decoration. And for s'mores, the makings of which were available at one of the nearby tables.

There was plenty of food, and there were tables and chairs set up all across the lawn (with light dustings of glitter where you least suspected it, naturally), and everything was ready for another welcome picnic!

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Magic is real, so are aliens, demons, angels, most mythological creatures, and people with mutant powers which are science and not magic," Illyana said helpfully, starting to tick things off on her fingers. "Oh, and some of us fit more than one category."

"Tell me about you, Harry Potter. I can almost smell the magic on you."

"Can we start with how you can smell magic?" Harry asked, barely repressing the urge to try and sneak a sniff at himself to make sure he didn't actually smell.

She shouldn’t. She really shouldn’t. But Illyana hadn’t spooked anyone in ages and it was fun.

“I’m a sorcerer, Harry,” she replied, letting her horns flicker into existence for a moment. “I was taught from an early age to sense magic around me.”

Harry definitely backed away a bit at that, but this was the thing about his day: that was not the weirdest thing about it.

"I don't think we have those where I come from?" he tried.

"You probably do, just with a different word," she said, and then it was just Illyana again. "Witch, warlock, enchanter, magus, wizard... someone who can use magic in ways normal humans cannot. Do things other people cannot do, with the energies of the universe. Cast spells, that sort of thing."

"Not all of them look as striking as me."

"Yeah, but horns aren't usually part of it where I come from."

He paused.

"I think."

It could be a thing and it hadn't been relevant to him yet.

"I am one of the 'special' ones who fit more than one category," Illyana said dryly. "No horns is a point in your world's favor, honestly."
