Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

As was usually the case with these things, good weather was once more blessing the gathering of Fandom folk new and old. There was a bonfire, but it was mostly for decoration. And for s'mores, the makings of which were available at one of the nearby tables.

There was plenty of food, and there were tables and chairs set up all across the lawn (with light dustings of glitter where you least suspected it, naturally), and everything was ready for another welcome picnic!

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Anakin was sulking behind a giant mug of coffee and keeping his eyes peeled for Nina and Prompto.

He'd had to drive a chocolate bunny.

Because Grogu was there. Eating a deviled egg menacingly.

Anakin in no way jumped in the air and squeaked like a tiny, tiny girl. You were imagining things.

"Grogu," he said, nodding.

Grogu toddled just a little closer, poking at him inexpertly with the Force and blinking those big eyes. But mostly just seemed content to stay where he was.

But no, Grogu just looked over at where his 'dad' was trying to plan a class with Faye and not succeeding at all.

"He's teaching?" Anakin looked a little alarmed.

Grogu just blinked innocently at him at that. Because his dad was the best. Totally shot a bunch of people and killed a big monster and gave him this cool ball from his ship!

Anakin had definitely also...okay, you know what, never mind recalling what Anakin did.

"Wonderful," Anakin sighed. "Now I'll have to figure out what he's teaching."

And maybe his name. That would be a good start.

There was the slightest sensation of someone tapping on the back of his head through the Force.

Knock-knock.

Ender would figure out where Val had run off to in a second. For now, she was making her own fun.

You're supposed to say 'who's there', Valentine admonished him, glancing quickly behind her to see if her dads were still busy - they were - before walking up to her great-grandfather.

"Canoe," Val told him seriously, looking up at him.

She was still much smaller, but her eyes said she knew she was clever.

"You'll take that back when Val and Ben start ganging up on you," Ender commented, walking up to him. "He's already got her practicing 'May the Fourth be with you'."

"Something to look forward to next year," Anakin said dryly, shaking his head. "I'm far more interested in knowing how he keeps track of how time moves here."

"That's true," Anakin admitted. "What brought you back this summer? Are you finished with your latest project?"

"We're moving on to another planet when we get home, yes," Ender said.

"I hope the next one's warmer," Val muttered.

Ender's mouth curved a little. "And then we might start thinking about getting you another brother."

Anakin smiled to hear both of those things. "I prefer the warmth myself," he told Val. "I grew up in the desert."

"I have to put on a coat when I go outside," Val complained. "Even in summer."

"We're on a planet founded by Alaskan natives," Ender said wryly. "It's a little further from the sun than she's used to."
