Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

It was unseasonably warm in Fandom today, which was good news for anyone who didn't want to have to worry about bundling up, and bad news for anyone hoping for a snowy picnic. Traditions were traditions though, so there was still a bonfire going and plenty of supplies for s'mores and hot chocolate among the variety of foods and drinks that had been prepared for the new folks.

Once everything was set up and un-tasteful amounts of glitter had been brushed off of everything, it was time to be welcoming!

Illyana was going to be as gentle as she was capable of being. You're welcome.

"GUILLERMO DE LA CRUZ," she bellowed from atop one of the picnic tables, her voice magically enhanced to carry across the lawn.

Did she still look hung-over? Probably. Illyana had opted to use her powers to do an around-the-world NYE, and after this REALLY needed to eat her body weight in carbs and sugars to refuel before she started falling over.

The first thing Vi had done once she'd realised were she wasn't was try to look less like an escaped prisoner, which some person carelessly leaving their clothes out on a line took care of, the second was to try to get the lay of the land.

Which was why she was wandering through this crowd of people, a 'Blackwell Academy Drama Department' hoodie pulled up over her head.

Jo's portal had basically been timed just before the welcome picnic so she had gotten back to Fandom, realised that she was going to a big sibling this semester and headed straight down to the picnic.

She put on her nametag and began to look around for someone called Liberty. Even though she was a little nervous about the idea of being a big sibling this time round, she hoped she could still be friendly and helpful.

While Astrid's approach to finding her sibling might have been a bit more subtle than some, hers still involved a posterboard that had been painted and decorated and glittered with a bold and artistic representation of the name KURT WAGNER on it that she thought looked pretty good, though maybe she was a little biased.

Either way, she got to the picnic and held it up, and started to pick put which of the new faces would react to it.

Goose still found it rather weird to think that he was still a teacher even after making it through one semester already but Walsh had wanted him to stay in Fandom for another semester (and honestly he had a feeling the teaching thing was going to be around for a while since he didn't see the situation back home improving any time soon) so he figured that he should at least show up to the welcome picnic and be around for a while.

Was Summer a little disappointed that she didn't have a new school-assigned buddy to harrass and apparently guilt into having a good time at big parties for New Year's? Yes. More than a little, actually, but she supposed they couldn't all be winners, and she'd just have to content herself with the fact that even being in the teachers corral this year didn't seem to have as much novelty to it anymore, and that was an odd but welcome feeling, really.

So, Dwight could add one more event to his first time list for Fandom activities. Admittedly the last few picnics he had either only dropped in for a few minutes or not dropped by at all. But he was a teacher this semester- which he was still wrapping his brain around- so it was totally different this time around.

So he had a small plate of food and a drink as he made his way around the crowd, looking at the Familiar and some no so familiar faces in the crowd.

Sidon was certainly not going not going to complain about the unseasonably pleasent warmth in the air for this picnic at all! The less he had to deal with cold temperatures, the better, although after managing to survive Death Mountain for his class last semester, he was determined he could handle the other extreme side of things even better now!

But either way, even if the weather was terribly cold, he would be absolutely elated to be there, quite possibly keeping himself warm with the sheer magnitude of his smile as he looked over the picnic at all the people gathered for one of his many favorite Fandom events, and, occasionally, helped himself to a slice or two of pizza from the picnic tables!

What a wonderfully exciting day!

So Prompto definitely could have done without that nice little worm that had burrowed itself deep into his brain after seeing Yang at the New Year's party; thankfully, he could try to distract himself from dwelling on it by focusing on making sure Liz had been having a good time (and leaning maybe a little too heavily on the hope that she was too distracted to notice how distracted he had become). He had really been hoping that, by now, by the Welcome Picnic, he could have shaken it off, but he really, really hadn't. He almost felt like it had gotten worse.

But maybe...just maybe...he'd have more success with chasing it away at the Welcome Picnic, where he could focus on how good it felt to be teaching a class on his own again and extending his photography class from the summer out into a full legit semester. Yeah, he was just going to focus on that and not think about regrets you were desperately trying to ignore and mistakes you wish you hadn't made and how much of an idiot you were...

So if anyone was really wondering why Prompto just seemed to look absolutely miserable with a pathetic sort of groan that he couldn't hold back and a rub of his forehead...

But he was trying to just focus on the picnic and everyone having a good time, and it was fine! He was fine! Totally fine!

Somehow, Gladio had wound up with two classes this semester, which he supposed meant he had better doubly be present at this picnic thing. Which was fine. There was free food, and he could just sort of stand there and be amused by the people watching, which was generally his standard go-to at outdoor parties like this, anyway.

As if already a reflection on the fact that they were all teaching their own separate specialties this semester, Ignis couldn't help noticing that he and his fellow so-called 'chocobros' (a term that had weaseled its way into his lexicon despite his best efforts to avoid it!) seemed to keep their separate posts at the picnic as well. Though he supposed that wasn't too terribly surprising; they spent arguably far too much time together already these days as it was.

So he enjoyed being slightly more of an individual during this picnic, off to the side a little and mildly observing the goings-on while sipping from a can of Ebony to prepare him for venturing over to the food to see what might be on offer.

There were a lot of things to appreciate about the welcome picnic, really. The weather wa almost always (conspiciouly) lovely, there was a certain excitement in the air from the new kids finding their footing on this strange little island, and, most importantly, Amaya was never disappointed by the selection of potential foods on sticks available at the tables!

She was a simple woman, really.

Oh, boy. The welcome picnic. Wasn't Rosa just thrilled to be contractually obligated to be there that day?

Well, actually, she did like to sort of scope out the new kids and also realize that most of these kids she honestly couldnt' tell you if they were new or not, for the most part, because she never bothered remembering half of them, anyway, and she still liked to think that it was probably not a good thing if she did actually remember you.

Had Shunsui wound up on the lawn yesterday, thinking it was the day of the Welcome Picnic since, if he recalled correctly, they usually did fall on a Saturday? Yes, yes of course.

Had he somehow gone and taken a nap overnight and when he woke up, he was still there to find that the welcome picnic had instead sprung up out of seemingly nowhere the next day?

Quite possibly.

The world may never truly know, but he most certainly still had plenty of sake to share with his fellow teachers should they need a little help getting through the day!

After she'd done her big-sibling-ish duty, 'Yana plunked herself down next to the bonfire, with a plate of food that was honestly utterly ridiculous, compared to her body mass. Multiple sandwiches the size of her head.

And she was going to eat everything she'd piled on the plate, too. Before getting seconds. And thirds. Maybe fourths.

YOU try teleporting around the world to party multiple times, WITHOUT any supervillains showing up. A growing girl needed to eat.

This place was fantastic and Guillermo couldn’t believe he got to attend a school like this … he still wasn’t sure why someone had signed him up for a scholarship or why they thought he’d benefit from attending Fandom but well it was already a million times better than his last school.

He helped himself to a fairly decent amount of food and wandered around the picnic, hopefully he would seem friendly and approachable and didn’t just come across as some awkward dork … which he knew was probably what the reality was but well he was still optimistic at the prospect that he could make friends here … the bus ride over at gone pretty well after all so at least that had been a good start.
