Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

It was unseasonably warm in Fandom today, which was good news for anyone who didn't want to have to worry about bundling up, and bad news for anyone hoping for a snowy picnic. Traditions were traditions though, so there was still a bonfire going and plenty of supplies for s'mores and hot chocolate among the variety of foods and drinks that had been prepared for the new folks.

Once everything was set up and un-tasteful amounts of glitter had been brushed off of everything, it was time to be welcoming!

After she'd done her big-sibling-ish duty, 'Yana plunked herself down next to the bonfire, with a plate of food that was honestly utterly ridiculous, compared to her body mass. Multiple sandwiches the size of her head.

And she was going to eat everything she'd piled on the plate, too. Before getting seconds. And thirds. Maybe fourths.

YOU try teleporting around the world to party multiple times, WITHOUT any supervillains showing up. A growing girl needed to eat.

This place was fantastic and Guillermo couldn’t believe he got to attend a school like this … he still wasn’t sure why someone had signed him up for a scholarship or why they thought he’d benefit from attending Fandom but well it was already a million times better than his last school.

He helped himself to a fairly decent amount of food and wandered around the picnic, hopefully he would seem friendly and approachable and didn’t just come across as some awkward dork … which he knew was probably what the reality was but well he was still optimistic at the prospect that he could make friends here … the bus ride over at gone pretty well after all so at least that had been a good start.

By this point, Vi was certain that something seriously wrong was going on here, but she was also starving and there was no point in waiting for the other shoe to drop on an empty stomach, not when there was a free meal involved. So, she set up next to one of the tables and started stuffing her face.

"You do not have to inhale it, new girl," a voice said from next to her, as Illyana was making herself an obscenely large sandwich that was an abomination to all good taste. "You can put some in your pockets for later if you want, no one will care."

"But there is more food at the dorms, and a cafeteria at the school. Dorm food usually has someone's name on it, but if not, it's fair game. If someone complains you took their food but there was no name, ignore them. They know better." Or at least they should, given how much of an unclaimed food-swiper Illyana tended to be. "The cafeteria food is free."

Steph had wandered up toward the school just to check it out, since apparently there were newbies today and it was a whole thing, and she wanted a glimpse of how weird this castle-for-a-school with its totally non-standard curriculum might possibly be.

So far it was pretty much the total opposite of how she remembered all the start of the term stuff at Blackwell used to go.

Though speaking of which, was she actually seeing a Blackwell Academy logo on one of the kids' shirts?

Was that her Blackwell drama department shirt? She couldn't remember seeing it in with the rest of the clean laundry today, come to think of it.

"Hey," she called, frowning slightly as she started in Vi's direction. "Totally idle question, but... where'd you get that shirt?"

She couldn't entirely rule out the possibility that the kid was actually a transplant from some wacky-future-timeline version of Arcadia Bay, thanks, Fandom.

As much as being home had been nice over the holidays, Jo had found herself missing Fandom over the holidays and she was definitely glad to be back at school, which was something she hadn’t thought she’d ever think before. Once her sibling duties had been attended to, Jo decided to see what food was on offer and had immediately helped herself to some hot chocolate and a plate of food and found a place to sit down and watch was happening around her.

Alara hadn't realised just how slow the holidays could be when she wasn't visiting Xelaya. Even though she definitely preferred to being in Fandom than having to go home and listen to her parents complain about her lack of future prospects.

She supposed that was the one good thing with her parents currently not speaking to her, she didn't have to listen to them constantly compare her to Solana.

Even though she wasn't a big sibling this semester, she still decided to head down to the picnic for a bit and see what was happening and also help herself to some of the food that was on offer as well.

Really, all of this was so overwhelming and exciting and still just a little bit terrifying that Libby wasn't sure she'd even have the stomach for food, but all of it looked just so amazing that she couldn't not enjoy some of it. There was just something a little comforting, too, about the feel of a church potluck with all the dishes and the tables and she helped herself to some and found a seat where she would try to get down as much of it as she could.

It definitely beat another Sunday of squirrel stew!

Although, really, looking around the place at all the squirrels she had noticed running around, that would be some hearty squirrel stew.

After availing himself of some of the food, Will began his search for Liberty in earnest. It was very convenient of the school to provide nametags for this picnic, it certainly made things easier.

Kurt was feeling a strange mix of excitement and fear as he grabbed some food and drink and sat down. Everything had been happening so fast. And it had all been... well... good so far. That was an unusual feeling for him and he was sort of just waiting for the other shoe to drop and everything to take a turn. He hoped he was wrong. He hoped the Professor had been right about Fandom being different. Time could tell ultimately but for now Kurt was just gonna sit and watch and get a better feel for his new home for the time being.

Alara tried not to stare but there weren’t too many residents of Fandom with noticeably different physical appearances, aside from maybe Sidon so it wasn’t difficult for her to spot Kurt and after a bit decided to make her way over.

“Hi I’m Alara,” she said with a smile as she approached Kurt, “are you new to Fandom this semester?” Alara knew that sometimes she wasn’t the most social so she figured it wouldn’t hurt to check.

Liz hadn’t been to a welcome picnic in over ten years, so it was mostly nostalgia that saw her decide to head down for the picnic for a bit. She was a bit surprised that she had decided to come out to another big function after going to the New Years party but she thought it wouldn’t hurt to spend some time outdoors at the picnic so she got some food and moved so that she was still be a bit away from the crowds and observe what was going on around her.

Once her sibling duties were taken care of, of course, Astrid grabbed a little bit to eat that would go mostly untouched as she found her usual spot underneath one of the trees with her sketchbook and looked around for particularly interesting people to draw and sketch, although, really, the most interesting one of the new faces to draw was going to wind up being her little sibling, anyway.

As usual, Troy had still not learned his lesson, because, even though he went and grabbed one of those ridiculously giant cookies that were meant for sharing to nibble on all for himself as he wandered around the picnic to scope out people to either cool-guy nod at or maybe even talk to like he always did, he was still going to be surprised and confused why, later, his stomach hurt and he didn't feel very well.

But it always seemed like a good idea at the time! How could that much cookie ever be a bad thing?

And this was possibly the last chance he'd have to milk this bit for all it was worth, okay?

Despite trying her best to keep a strong facade about it, Sakaki was actually feeling a little bit down today. She'd just gotten back from going home over the break last night, and she already missed it. As many opportunities as she'd had here, she didn't really want to leave. Going home had been a mistake, reminding her all too much of how much she missed her family and her friends.

But she was back, because progressing in her studies was more important, but as she sat aside with some food and watched the crowd, she hoped no one would noticed that her eye looked a little teary as she did.

Kurt had finished the first plate of food and was heading back for round two as he passed by another section of the tables. He caught sight of Sakaki as he passed by, and even though he had a feeling she either wanted to be left alone or that talking tot he new kid was probably not what she wanted, he couldn't notice she did look a bit sad. And Kurt knew he would feel bad about it the rest of the day if he didn't at least say hi. So he stopped for a moment as he approached as gave a small, non-toothy smile.

"Hi, I'm Kurt. I'm one of the new students" he explained with a grin, realizing hat as probably pretty obvious. "This is a really nice campus you guys have here."

Hannibal was pleased to be teaching again, even if it was a community center class. And today was a lovely day, so he was here for the mingling.

Not for the food, though. He had his own thermos and insulated bag for that. Anybody that knew him would know it was for sharing.

Will felt a little odd being here, considering he was not a teacher nor (obviously) a student, and hadn't even been The New Guy on the island for a while. But he'd been assured that everyone was welcome at the picnic, and one of the new students was also supposed to be working in the clinic, so he figured it was probably a good idea to try and meet her ahead of her first day.

Wanna feel less odd and out of place Will? Because there was a certain hard-to-miss new student walking by as he made his way toward the food tables again.

Kurt slowed down a little and gave Will a nod and a small smile as he approached, still trying to reign in those obviously-the-new-kid-around nerves.

This was Jules' last picnic as a student, so she'd be remiss if she were to, er, miss it.

Thus, there she was in her usual spot sitting up against a tree, giant mountain cat curled at her side.

Well, how about that? She'd survived an entire semester at a school that wasn't Alfea, which meant she was no longer one of The New Kids.

Terra found herself some snacks and a spot to sit, and there were no worries about her setting anything on fire that wasn't supposed to be, she was no fire fairy. She didn't even know any fire fairies! (Yet)

Kiem had spent most of the break on the couch in the common room watching TV while occasionally trying to get the dart car results on his phone. The latter seemed to be impossible. In any case, the picnic reminded him that he actually missed company, and that he really wanted to meet the new students.

He picked up some food and a drink and looked around to see if someone looked approachable.
