Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

It was unseasonably warm in Fandom today, which was good news for anyone who didn't want to have to worry about bundling up, and bad news for anyone hoping for a snowy picnic. Traditions were traditions though, so there was still a bonfire going and plenty of supplies for s'mores and hot chocolate among the variety of foods and drinks that had been prepared for the new folks.

Once everything was set up and un-tasteful amounts of glitter had been brushed off of everything, it was time to be welcoming!

Get some food, meet some people, don't set anything on fire that isn't supposed to be on fire.

I'm giving myself points for putting 2022 on everything on the first try. :D

Illyana was going to be as gentle as she was capable of being. You're welcome.

"GUILLERMO DE LA CRUZ," she bellowed from atop one of the picnic tables, her voice magically enhanced to carry across the lawn.

Did she still look hung-over? Probably. Illyana had opted to use her powers to do an around-the-world NYE, and after this REALLY needed to eat her body weight in carbs and sugars to refuel before she started falling over.

After she'd done her big-sibling-ish duty, 'Yana plunked herself down next to the bonfire, with a plate of food that was honestly utterly ridiculous, compared to her body mass. Multiple sandwiches the size of her head.

And she was going to eat everything she'd piled on the plate, too. Before getting seconds. And thirds. Maybe fourths.

YOU try teleporting around the world to party multiple times, WITHOUT any supervillains showing up. A growing girl needed to eat.

In what was the second time today Guillermo jumped rather noticeably when someone started shouting.

Only this time it was his name being shouted, "um ... hi, I'm Guillermo?" he said, making his way over in the direction where his name had been called from.

He really needed to stop making his name sound like a question.

This place was fantastic and Guillermo couldn’t believe he got to attend a school like this … he still wasn’t sure why someone had signed him up for a scholarship or why they thought he’d benefit from attending Fandom but well it was already a million times better than his last school.

He helped himself to a fairly decent amount of food and wandered around the picnic, hopefully he would seem friendly and approachable and didn’t just come across as some awkward dork … which he knew was probably what the reality was but well he was still optimistic at the prospect that he could make friends here … the bus ride over at gone pretty well after all so at least that had been a good start.

The first thing Vi had done once she'd realised were she wasn't was try to look less like an escaped prisoner, which some person carelessly leaving their clothes out on a line took care of, the second was to try to get the lay of the land.

Which was why she was wandering through this crowd of people, a 'Blackwell Academy Drama Department' hoodie pulled up over her head.

By this point, Vi was certain that something seriously wrong was going on here, but she was also starving and there was no point in waiting for the other shoe to drop on an empty stomach, not when there was a free meal involved. So, she set up next to one of the tables and started stuffing her face.

Jo's portal had basically been timed just before the welcome picnic so she had gotten back to Fandom, realised that she was going to a big sibling this semester and headed straight down to the picnic.

She put on her nametag and began to look around for someone called Liberty. Even though she was a little nervous about the idea of being a big sibling this time round, she hoped she could still be friendly and helpful.

As much as being home had been nice over the holidays, Jo had found herself missing Fandom over the holidays and she was definitely glad to be back at school, which was something she hadn’t thought she’d ever think before. Once her sibling duties had been attended to, Jo decided to see what food was on offer and had immediately helped herself to some hot chocolate and a plate of food and found a place to sit down and watch was happening around her.

It wasn't that Vi didn't trust what Harry ~~hadn't yet~~ said, but yeah, she totally didn't trust what he'd said.

Which made her name being listed on this form even creepier.

Alara hadn't realised just how slow the holidays could be when she wasn't visiting Xelaya. Even though she definitely preferred to being in Fandom than having to go home and listen to her parents complain about her lack of future prospects.

She supposed that was the one good thing with her parents currently not speaking to her, she didn't have to listen to them constantly compare her to Solana.

Even though she wasn't a big sibling this semester, she still decided to head down to the picnic for a bit and see what was happening and also help herself to some of the food that was on offer as well.

Goose still found it rather weird to think that he was still a teacher even after making it through one semester already but Walsh had wanted him to stay in Fandom for another semester (and honestly he had a feeling the teaching thing was going to be around for a while since he didn't see the situation back home improving any time soon) so he figured that he should at least show up to the welcome picnic and be around for a while.

While Astrid's approach to finding her sibling might have been a bit more subtle than some, hers still involved a posterboard that had been painted and decorated and glittered with a bold and artistic representation of the name KURT WAGNER on it that she thought looked pretty good, though maybe she was a little biased.

Either way, she got to the picnic and held it up, and started to pick put which of the new faces would react to it.

Guillermo saw who his roommate was going to be and smiled, "hey this is going to be awesome," he grinned, he also felt a bit relieved that he wasn't going to be rooming with a girl if he was being honest with himself.

If anything, at least Jo's search might be made a little easier with the fact that there was, in fact, a nervous and excited new student with a nametag that read LIBERTY slapped onto her blouse unable to help herself from eyeing Jo a little curiousity. There were plenty of things to gawk at all around her right now, sure, but another girl dressed more modestly like she was and not at all like how she'd come to expect most worldly girls to dress was something to take note of!

Well, considering that it wasn't a very long list at all and Libby had already had the chance to meet the other two names that weren't hers on it, she had a feeling that she might be able to figure out who this girl dubiously looking at the list might possibly be. Which was definitely making her feelings swing more toward nervous again. Sometimes, she felt Zo's look had a bit of a hard edge to it, but this girl made Zo look like she may as well be heading off to church!

But if they were going to be roommates, she hoped they could still get along.

"Oh," she said, a little softly but hopefully enough to get her attention. "Are you Vi? Or is it Vee? I'm Liberty." And she nodded at the list and her place on it, so she wasn't left wondering why some random girl who probably looked like she'd just come waltzing out of some prairie book was talking to her.

Really, all of this was so overwhelming and exciting and still just a little bit terrifying that Libby wasn't sure she'd even have the stomach for food, but all of it looked just so amazing that she couldn't not enjoy some of it. There was just something a little comforting, too, about the feel of a church potluck with all the dishes and the tables and she helped herself to some and found a seat where she would try to get down as much of it as she could.

It definitely beat another Sunday of squirrel stew!

Although, really, looking around the place at all the squirrels she had noticed running around, that would be some hearty squirrel stew.

"Liberty?" Jo found the nametag that she was after and realised that Liberty seemed to be staring at her a bit and then noticed that Liberty was also dressed very similar to how she was, she tugged at her long skirt a bit nervously before she continued, "hello I'm Jo," she smiled, "welcome to Fandom," she held out her hand to shake Liberty's since she was still used to being more formal with her greetings even after being in Fandom for a semester already.

The offered hand might have thrown Libby a little, but she laughed and took it in stride, taking it with her own for an awkward, clearly unfamiliar shake, which seemed to her like something more that men tended to do, not girls and schoolmates.

But considering all her schoolmates before now had also been siblings, she could have been wrong about that!

"Thank you!" she said, beaming a little with the excitement that kept building with each second and other eager look around. "It's nice to meet you, Jo! And I know the nametag says Liberty, but you can just call me Libby, if you want. Most people do.c

But Vi was so approachable and charming with her piercings and facial scars and half-covered tattoos!

"Yeah, Vi." See, she didn't even grunt her reply! Even if it took her moment because it was weird hearing people use her name again.

"Same here Libby," she smiled, "I know that Fandom can be quite overwhelming, have you been told anything about the school or island yet?" she figured that was probably a good place to start rather than try to explain things like coming from a different time period or that people could randomly change into a different person for the weekend.
